Well-new to me 01 4x4 Reg cab- all stock with 300000 miles. Picked it up pretty cheap, $3700 (If she don't blowup any time soon!) Guess first thing is some type of fuel press. gauge, what to you guys suggest? looks like lift pump is in original location and injection pump looks a little cleaner than other parts around it. Give me some advice, never had a 2nd Gen before!

I think it's a good start to check the fuel pressure and lift pump output and while you're there replace the fuel filter. Then I'd change the oil and filter saving a sample to send to blackstone labs to check for any abnormalities in the oil. After checking the air filter ,probably a transmission service with a reading of the transmission pan to check on it's operation and a change out of the differential oil and you'll be good to go many miles!

WOW! Less than 4 k - Outstanding!!! Let's see some pictures.

Out of curiosity I KBB'ed it and in fair condition with those miles it's private party value is $8,100, NADA lists it rough trade in value of $5,825. Nice deal.

Definitely get a fuel psi gage to start. But, if you can get the 3 gage pod and may I suggest the following gages, fuel psi, trans temp and a combo boost / egt. Since you have Westach gages on the 06 I don't feel bad about recommending them, I had Westach's since late 01 and the've never given me a problem.

Good luck with the 2nd gen - post up a few pictures when you get a chance.

Thanks, I'll get pics up shortly, It is clean and nice truck, needs tires,(already have some half worn 285-75-16 ) Oil was changed 3k miles ago and still looks good. How long do yall go between changes? I go 5k on my 06.

I am looking at the wetach fuel gage at Genos, what will I need to hook it up? I will have to wait on the Egt/boost till I can cough up some extra $$ !

Should I relocate the lift pump or change it out to a better brand? What about fuel additive ? Just want to get as much life out of the VP44 as possible.

As long as the current lift pump is putting out enough fuel pressure, you can leave it; but they are weak to start with and quite prone to failure. Once pressure drops, you would be better off with an aftermarket unit of your choice IMO. Additive is a good idea also!

Yea, need to check pressure first, what should I be seeing? Is two-cycle oil the best additive for lubricity? How about it, just cleaned it up!

Looks sharp! Great deal! Pressure should be over 10 at idle, never under 5 (ideally, never under 10, but with the stock lift pump that is asking for a bit much). Two stroke oil is good for lubricity, just make sure to get the ashless type; you will need 1oz per gallon of fuel.

Nice score! That thing looks great! I use PowerServe additive as its easy to find. Call Geno's about the gage and ask them what you need real helpful folks, its been about 8 years, a relocation and switch to after-market system since I did my gage install so I forget exactly what you need. If you can go the extra $30 bucks for the A pillar 3 gage pod and add to it as you go. I can understand not being able to put out more $ than you can right off the bat. First thing is the fuel psi gage, then I'd go the trans temp and then the boost/egt combo.

I'd get a LP relocation kit from Geno's - I'm pretty sure it has everything you need to do the job. Relocating the LP back by, and below, the fuel tank will help the stock LP last and work easier/better. Like Mishkaya said above "ideally never under 10PSI is ideal". Back when I still had the stock LP (relocated by tank) I recall pretty steady 12-14 PSI at idle and when going WOT it would drop down around 7.
