New 1/2 ton truck, which one?

Well, I don't think I can part with my '04. I was going to trade it on an '06 or '07. Same truck as what I have now, just with an auto. Well, I don't want to part with it. So, I'm looking at either a new or clean used 1/2 ton for daily driving, either a Chev (Chevy or GMC, preferably a GMC... they look better or Dodge). I don't like the 4. 7 gas. The Hemi is just too thirsty. Either the 4. 8 or 5. 3 in the Chev will be enough for me, I think. I want a 4x4 1/2 ton crew cab or quad cab. Anyone have a 1/2 ton? comments? I'm not even considering a Ford or anything else. I drove a Canyon and it's too small inside. Maybe a Tundra? I haven't looked too close at them. Are they gutsy? Gas mileage? I hope to get 21 mpg on the road.

Are there any reasonably priced power upgrades for the Dodge 4. 7? Since I'm not getting rid of my Cummins, I still have something for towing. But it'll be nice to have something that can at least get out of its own way. Both the 4. 8 and 5. 3 GM motors seem good enough for me. I'm looking for something that'll pull my 20 foot boat without too much effort.

I've sort of rambled here. Any positive comments are appreciated.

Gas engine power upgrades are expensive and far less effective than upgrades for our Turbo Diesels. I would plan on getting enough stock power and leaving it alone. If you are comfortable in your Dodge, you may not like another brand of truck, especially moving from one to the other and back. Also less manuals to get, unusual issues to deal wirth across brands and how they do things. A second diesel would be my choice, even if a stripped down one. You save on fuel costs, have more power, and get better resale value, especially if there are high miles on it at trade-in time.

I'd go for a Toyota Tundra with a 4. 7L if you want plenty of power, or a Toyota Tacoma V6 with a little less power, but better economy. You can't get better then a Toyota for reliability. For some strange reason a 1500 Dodge are not as reliable as a 2500 and 3500 Dodge. This is just based on what I hear from people who own 1/2 ton Dodges. I'm not convinced that Ford and Chevy 1/2 ton are any better.

1/2 ton 4x4 crew cab w/21 mpg, might as well get another Dodge Diesel :) After what ya been drivin, I don't think you will like the 1/2 ton stuff. Too light duty, yet with a 4x4 crew cab, it is as big as what ya got.

I second the opinion on the Toyota. I have a friend with a Tundra. Get looking truck. powerful v8, best MPG of any v8, plenty of power to tow. I am fathful to Dodge as much as anyone, but i would recomend a toyota to anyone!

My G/F traded in her 06 Tacoma V6 TRD 2x4. She test drove both the HEMI and non HEMI 1500's. Lets just leave it at GUTLESS wonders.

Her Tacoma would get about what my truck gets on the hiway.

I went and drove a Tundra today. Pretty nice. It was $37k MSRP. They have about $5500 in discounts, but that's off sticker, not invoice. If I can find a dealer that will start with invoice, I might get one. Otherwise, I'm getting a Hemi. Price is an issue. I can't get into a Dodge 2500 Cummins because it's too much. Besides, I'm keeping the '04 DRW for all the big chores. The purpose of me getting a 1/2 ton is to have something that rides smooth, is quiet, easy to park, wife can drive, etc. But, if I can find a good clean Cummins 2500, I'll take it. Gotta be for less than $28K, within driving distance, and low miles.

new 2007 tundra

Does anyone know the hp - torque ratings on the new 5. 7 engine. The 4. 7 was a little shy on torque for me.
