Hi, i just checked my rearend gear lube today and it was white in color like it had water. Truck only has 120 miles, picked it up last night. My buddies 04. 5 gear lube was a normal oil color when new, why is mine white

Is common with any vessel that holds fuel or oil such as engine, transmission, rear

end, or fuel tank. Caused by the humidity in the air within the vessel condensating

out during the cool of the night normally. Is worse when air is quite humid and nights

are cool or cold. Will evaporate out when the oil is warmed during usage.

So not to worry. :)

It might be prudent to take it back to the dealer, have it documented (for future reference) and changed. Insist on synthetic, RP, Amsoil, MoPar, ect. Under warranty, their dime.

I change my axle fluid regularly and the only time I've seen white lube is after a "water crossing".

Update: i decided to play it safe and went ahead and changed it. damn stuff was nasty looked like an atv gear case lube after fourwheelin. dumped in 4 qts of valvoline 75W140 synthetic.

It's caused by aeration, if the oil level is too high it gets worse, you must have checked it shortly after driving it, and yes as another one has said, condensation (water) will also cause it, but unless you have immersed the gearbox in water there shouldn't be any in there, I would check to see if the truck has been reclaimed from a tornado or flood somewhere Oo.
