The engine, transmission, cab are wonderful. I has stump pulling torque. It is by far the best overall CTD I've ever owned, and that's about twice the nuumber on my sig.
On the downside, it is not a great choice for a daily commuter. If not worked hard you are likely to be faced with issues involving the emissions system. It does not have the fuel economy of your '03. Similarly equipped trucks will suffer a 1-2 MPG penalty with the new model.
For towing it's awesome. The five speed auto transmission mates very well to the engine. You can always find the perfect gear for towing. If the shifting logic doesn't pick just the right gear you can manually select just the right gear. Overall, the shift points seem to work pretty well. The integrated exhaust brake works better than any I've had before. You can pretty much drive with it on all the time and save lots of brake wear. Also, it's pretty hard for your speed to get out of hand, it's very effective.
The 6. 7 is super quiet. It's a sophisticated electronically controlled engine, so not too many things for a shade tree mechanic to tinker with. The computer is too smart and if you monkey with things it's likely to through a code, or worse.
For economy, you can't beat the old twelve valves. For comfort and pulling the new trucks are light years ahead.
