Well time to find a used/new to me truck. I am wondering if i should find a low mile 2nd gen, or move on to the 3rd gen trucks. Guess I am wondering if anyone regrets moving up to the 3rd gen. Let me know what ya think. Thanks

Alex

as a current owner of both here are a few thoughts. i am a sucker for a rattle trap so i dont think i could drive a quiet 3rd gen ever day. :-laf

both are good trucks but price new stock injectors for a common rail truck. they are not cheap. our 2nd gen gets better mpg's as well. also remember you have probably owned that 2nd for quite so you probably know them quite well. it really comes down to preference and what you can find on the market, we've had great luck with both so hard to say one way or the other. if you are learning hard on a third gen i am sure others can suggest the best years to look for.

I moved up to a third gen from my '01. 5. My '01. 5 was a good truck but I think that they really hit the mark on the 5. 9 powered 3rd gens. I like MUCH better having regular rear doors and having a door post for safety. The body is much quieter.

Each generation offers many improvements but also additional complexity and more expensive repair parts. Only you can decide.

I owned an '01, an '06, and now an '08. I liked each but my current one is the best of all for me. Now I'm reading comments by owners of new Gen IV trucks which sound even better.

I really love my 2005 3500 but am looking at getting a 2011 or waiting a wee bit and ordering a 2012 if they'd ever announce some changes to better match Ford/GM.

I went from a 1st gen Cummins W350 to a 2nd gen V10 to my early '04 3rd gen. As others have said, they have just gotten better through the years, but more expensive. I wanted a 2nd gen HO Cummins 6 speed, but couldn't find a nice one. I do like the full four door cab on the new one!

Thanks for the info. I definitely leaning toward the 3rd gen for the fact of the 4 doors. As far as repairs I do most myself, and no matter what you get nowadays the cost sucks. Great to hear you are all happy with the 3rd gen. Will let you know when I find one.

Well found a 2007 Quad cab six speed C&C with an aluminum flat bed with 37k on it. It has P/W P/DL CD Exhaust brake and 373 Gears. Another victim to the economy. Going to look at it tommorow. Anything to look for in particular on these trucks?? Thanks in advance. Just not sure about all the new electronics yet, But then again it is a CUMMINS:)
