I'm debating whether to upgrade my 99 2500 4x4 diesel with the power goodies or buying an 03 3500 4x4 LB for towing a 14000# 5th wheel. Would like honest opinons good or bad on the new 03 truck. Have read some about drive train vibration problems etc. i did drive one and did not notice it. Also DRW vs SRW and pulling I know this is a big debate would would like opinions mine will be a daily driver with towing to and from work site etc. I live in the trailer part of the time and mostly in mid-west. Also would a 2500 be adequate.

Thanks

I would suggest you go to the Dodge.com web site and review the towing information there. I started out selecting a 15,000# load and asked what truck could handle the load. The site recommended only 3500s and all had a 4. 10 rear end ratio. I chose a six speed this time (current 2001 has an auto) but you have your choice of several transmissions. My choice was the 6 speed so I could control the RPMs better and keep the engine running around 2k.

The choice between a dually and SRW comes down to how much weight is your trailer going to drop on the bed of the truck? Mine is a 35 foot Alpenlite and would have maxed out the SRW so I chose the dually to offer a little extra capacity.

I have test driven 2 of the 03 3500s and was impressed with how smooth they handled and how quickly they stopped. I told the salesman that I was retired from the WA State Patrol but he didn't want to see how the truck handled at high speed. :{

My 2003 is now completed and in status "I", which means "Built, not OK'd". Hope to see it in a couple of weeks.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the reply i did go to their website this afternoon so will probably go with the 3500. It was just what you said they only recommended the 3500.

Thanks again

Based on the info you've supplied, I'd do a 3500 DRW with 4. 10 axle w/anti-spin, HO and 6 speed. The DRW will be alot more stable. Plus, you get the $500 Farm Bureau Rebate, $1500 Dodge Rebate, and a 7/70 Powertrain Warranty. Interest rates are at an all time low. It's a buyer's market ! Go ahead and take the plunge ! :D
