I tow a 35ft. Triple slide 5er all the time with a 100% stock truck, auto and 4. 10’s with oversized 285 tires which makes my calculated gear ratio about the same as if it had 3. 70’s
At an indicated 60 MPH I am really doing 66MPH due to the oversized tires.
Indicated 62MPH = 2000 RPM, true speed is 69 MPH.
Indicated 70MPH = 2250 RPM, true speed is 77 MPH.
At 55-60 MPH I get about 12-13 MPG.
At 65-75 I get 10-12 MPG.
10 MPG is the worst I have ever gotten, 14 MPG is the best, at 22000#
My CGVW is around 22000#. I use the cruise control and do the speed limit, anywhere from 55-75.
When I hit a hill large enough to slow me down, I will manually drop out of OD at about 55 MPH to help maintain speed. It will drop down on its own at 50mph. In the mountains, I will drop from 3rd to 2nd at about 35mph. I have only found 1 mountain so far in all the western states that I travel that requires me to drop into 2nd. (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada and California. )
I also drop out of OD going down those hills. (Remember to go down the hills in the same gear it takes to go up the hills. )
I would highly recommend e-brakes somehow, but Dodge does not want you to do this with an auto. People do! Seek their help!
I do not think you will have a problem with an auto (watch the bombing, seek help), especially with the 4. 10's, it helps reduce pressure on the TC and the internal plastic parts. .
Good luck.
