just for kicks I went to chevy and dodge sites and built a similar truck to what I have, which is for the most part a run of the mill SLT 4x4 with a few of the options most need. an '09 model is at least 4k more than my '06 that is after you reduce the MSRP down to invoice price, the actual amount is nearly $4500. and chevies goodness sakes those are about 5k more than a dodge, which after invoice price and incentives would top 40k!!!! this has to be putting a cramp on sales of the trucks, I don't see anywhere near as many '07 and up rams as I do say '06 models. part of the problem is I think most models are charging an extra $1500 for the new diesel emissions system, this is another hidden cost of out of control environmentalism, with the passage of the cap and trade bill look for more stuff like this to hit our wallets, in 10 years we will be paying over 50 k for a truck and getting the mileage of a big block gasser.

on edit: with the added expense, lower mileage, and emissions isssues the newer trucks have, I have no incentive to go buy a new one, I suspect others are in the same boat

I hear you brother! The more I look at new trucks the more I love my '03. About a year ago I decided to upgrade my pick-up with goodies. Took a second job and started. When all is said and done I will have spent a little under $10,000 on a truck whose NADA value is a little over $19,000. And it's now paid for. So, what kind of truck can I buy for $29,000 that has all the bells, whistles, and grunt that I have???? Can't be done. As the song goes "... I love my truck, it waits outside... . "

that's why I'm in my paid for 01', the only way we can get screwed are if our trucks are totaled as we'll never get what they're worth out of the insurance company

The cost of everything has gone up. Including what most people earn from 2001 to present. Based on adjustment for inflation and increase cost of raw materials to make the truck $4,500-$1,500=$3,000 doallar increase not good but than again it coud have been worse.

Think about what it cost to fill the shopping cart with food say in 06 and what it cost today.

Your absolutely correct. It's all relative. Here an example;

Comments made in the year 1955!

(That's only 54 years ago!)

'I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible

To buy a week's groceries for $20. 00.

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year?

It won't be long before $2,000. 00 will only buy a used one.

'If cigarettes keep going up in price,

I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous.

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1. 00,

Nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store. '

'When I first started driving,

Who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. .

Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

'I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more.

Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND,

It seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.

'I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century.

They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas .

'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball?

It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric.

They are even making electric typewriters now.

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. .

I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.

'It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone

To watch their kids so they can both work.

'I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.

'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes.

I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to congress.

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather,

But I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

'There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a weekend,

It costs nearly $15. 00 a night to stay in a hotel.

'No one can afford to be sick anymore,

At $35. 00 a day in the hospital it's too rich for my blood. '

'If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it. '

I'm only 55 (born in 53) but I remember my folks telling me about it before I walked 8 miles to school one way in the snow:)

I do remember paying $0. 15 to $0. 19 for a gallon of gas with gas wars going to $0. 11 per gallon in high school, I could fill up my truck, take my girl to Sonic and a movie for $10

my kids don't believe me!!!:-laf

Was that 8 miles in the snow UPHILL both ways?????:D:D We didn't have a Sonic but it was cheaper for the movies cause you had everyone get in the trunk when you went into the movies. Sometime we even let them out after we got in.

The Problem is the debt people and others entities have created. Coupled with the entitlement generation that now exists. In the past companies and individuals were able to lower the cost of product and services B/C they were caring minimal or no debt.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. After a few weeks of scouring all the on line sites, car rags, dealer sales ads and car lots, I discovered that anyone that has a low mileage used one wants an arm and a leg for it. Or if it's reasonably priced it's been beat hard. I went and looked at several of them, and none were deserving to take home. The days of guys having to dump their trucks due to the economy are long gone.

I lucked out finding a new 08' that was on a dealers lot that was being forced out of business. I paid less than what the used ones were going for. And you gotta beware of getting too old of a truck. I don't want to deal with the VP44 issues either.

Yep, the EPA is screwing over us all... ... .....

I'm still waiting to see what type of truck he's going to get after all he told us that he's been around this stuff all of his life. I just wonder if he knows that all things have gone up in cost as the years roll by.

PS. One of t he other things that drives the cost of things up when you have very large companies trying to ride the smaller vendors not 30 days but 90-120 days before they pay the outstanding debt. This makes the smaller firms to increase the cost of the product to be the bankers for the large companies.
