I am wondering if I took out my hydroboost by putting in NAPA power steering fluid? I should know better than to ask a counter guy a question. On the new TSB for 97's changing out the power steering lines to the booster ,it says not to mix PS fluid ,and 97-02 used a different fluid. My hydraboost is leaking much worse now soaking a paper towel in a month. I am surprised that there is not more talk on the hydrabooster .

The plunger comes through the firewall in a spot that is almost impossible to see unless looking for a drip that goes down behind the carpet. If I get the hoses replaced via (TSB) should I drain

and flush it out with OEM before I take it in, then do my hydraboost. Thanks RJ

Doubt if it was the fluid. There are really only two types made, plain old PS fluid and Honda PS fluid. Some older and much new rigs use ATF but not yours.

Guess you know a TSB isn't free, you're going to have to pay for it unless you're still under warranty. Might be much cheaper and reliable to buy the recall parts from Dodge and do the work yourself.

Thanks for the reply. I did not realize TSB were not covered by the factory. My unit is not hissing, I just thought it was an issue

that they covered. I was taken the truck in for the throttle rod ball ends TSB, and I had already done the broken throttle threaded rod myself.

Will Dodge give out the parts for the fix.

The reason I am concerned is if I replace the hydrobooster I did not want to eat the seal in the new unit because of napa power steering fluid. I am just about ready to tackle the hydroboost. I would feel more comfortable if it was in the service manual. thanks RJ

So, what kind of PS fluid should we be using? Are synthetics OK?
Synthetics or synthetic blends are even better especially to eliminate cold weather squeal.

A lot of folks have changed to Royal Purple Syn PS fluid or Valvoline Syn-Power blend.

I found out recently Lube-Guard mades a anti cold weather squeal additive.

$6 and 4 ozs fixes it right up.

Still have not done the hydroboost and it is leaking much more now. I read in a search post that the hydro units from napa were not made well. Anyone found that to be the case. At one third the cost of oem seems like it might be worth a try.
