I just had mine replaced this week, the bracket had been in for some time and I was just waiting on the plastic cable clip that was on b/o. I doubt that the bracket would ever actually come apart and if it did I think it would take a very long time.

I had mine welded about 1500 miles ago or so. I just got the new bracket installed yesterday but the welded one had no new cracks. I made sure the ends of the cracks were taken care of before welding (drilled holes over the ends to spread out the stress) and I radiused the sharp edges on the bend when it was done to minimize stresses there. I think it had a lot of life left in it but probably not for the life of the truck. The cast iron one is sweet.
