Got the new stereo installed this weekend, it went very smoothly. I chose the Pioneer DEH-P77DH for the replacement, it is a din1. 5, or full height radio. The fit was perfect, just pull the old and install the new. The instruction from Crutchfeild was right on the money, as was their wiring adapters, really made the job a snap. I would fully recommend them for anyone wanting to up-grade their car or truck's stereo system. The 6. 5" component speakers fit the front doors perfectly, the adapters to change from the stock 6"x9" to the 6. 5" were right on. The tweeters were flush mounted in the door covers just above the 6. 5's. The biggest pain is getting to the rear speakers. The rear seat, seat belts, jack accessory pack, and rear side covers had to be removed, but they weren't that bad, just time consuming. The new system sound very good, I am still learning all the functions of the radio. The 12 disk cd player ended up under the rear seat, it just don't fit under the front, the slide controls interfere with it. Actually, it works better back there, it is easier to get to, and is away from everybody.

Just wanted to let everyone know that even I can install a new stereo, it is not that hard to do. I priced the install at different places around me, and could not believe what the total would be. Radio-65. 00, speakers front 75. 00, speakers rear-65. 00, Cd deck-45. 00, insulate cab-250. 00 all these prices are labor only, and the insulation price was a estimate that they thought might be low. $500. 00 bucks to do what took me no time, and was actually pretty fun. Any how, just wanted to let you know that it can be done, and with not much effort.

Good Job...

Too bad you guys out there dont have an Audio Express which had a 1 dollar install on everything, not custom.

We have Circuit City , H&H Greg and Best buy all with-in a 3-4 mile loop. They have free install,if you buy from them, only problem was they didn't have what I wanted, and what they did have was several hundred more then else where. Also only the labor is free, all kits, wiring adapters and such materials are extra, and twice the price as else where. You see, know one gets anything for free. Besides what fun is it to let some clown do the work for you? I know that when I do a job on My Truck, I will be more careful, do it right, take the time to route wires out of harms way, make lasting connections, tighten up things that were loosened, replace all the hardware that was removed, not skip over any of the steps and in general, give a crap about what I am doing. This is something that can not be bought, in todays high speed world where most seem content with mediocrity, and shudder at the thought of getting their hands dirty, competence, trustworthiness, honesty and pride in workmanship are all but forgotten. The fact that I care about the outcome, makes me the best man for the job. I only put the labor values in for a comparison, it they were labor quotes to my standard, I am sure the total would have been 2 to 3 times as much. Yes it is easier to drop it off elsewhere, just like an oil change, but I will continue to do my own work.

The DEHP's are GREAT units! I have run them in most of my GM system builds. The ram has the big alpine but the Pioneer has a few features I miss. I think I still have one of the steering wheel remotes kicking arround for when I may someday get another. THAT alone was one of the nice features of the pioneer units. The volume is a toggle on the back.

Thats funny, I was wondering if I should order that steering wheel control . Yep thats the radio, It looks nice seating in the dash, almost factory looking. Thats exactly what I wanted.

Tell ya what Y-KNot . . Uhh Y-Not grab one. It really kinda draws in the whole sweet factor. And it pops off with a finger click so you can use it as a regular remote for "Showin' off" .

Here is the Alpine that I love / and wish had some of the features of the Pioneer.
