Competition TOP Gear: Skoda diesel versus a mini Cooper

Off Roading 9500 lb winch on a 2500

Hey guys I am going to be getting some work done on my truck and need some advice on turbos and cams. What I have now is in the sig. I plan on adding o-rings and studs and then a cam and new turbo.

Any advice on which cam and which turbo? Truck is a daily driver, street racer and tows about 3500 lbs once a year.

I am thinking the $600 deal on cro-mo lifters and heavy springs might get added to the mix too.

I am guessing, new turbo is for EGT relief?

If it were me, I would wait until the cam goes it and then see what I needed.

As DCreed says, twins will solve all of your air problems (until you overfuel again:)) all in one upgrade.

just add the HT3B to yours and run twins.

I have thought about that, just not sure the cost of all the extra parts is worth it for a street truck. I can get an rather nice II or HTT big single for about $1800 plus or minus and I figure I would be over $3K for the rest of the parts for twins.

I may just leave the HX40 and get a cam and o-rings and transmission done. I can always do the twins later and I can do those myself.

$1800 is fairly close to the price of the twin kit I put on my truck. In the same cituation, more or less why I made the decision I did. The kit was strictly bolt on so basically two days downtime. This assumes you will be using the HX40 as I used my DZ. In my case, my truck is strictly a street truck with some RV towing duties. The twins are the "Schpickity Ding Ding" and tolerate a very wide range of uses. Essentially they have no bad habits and provide excellent EGT relief.

If you are thinking cam, like I said, install it and and drive it for awhile. Then see where you would like / need to go next based upon how much you want to spend.

I should say, that dollar for dollar, the twin set-up seemed to net more improvement over the cam. I had my cam installed and did not do it myself. Just my opinion.

Good Luck;

Jim

for fun go to EBAY and try "S400 turbo" I think you'll find what you need.

I have seen all that stuff and I ought to just call Rip and ask him for a "kit". I really don't have the time to buy all the parts individually. . I would forget some I am sure.

I will probably just go for the cam-springs-lifters and o-rings and wait on the turbo... .

I bet you won't be able to resist when you are down there later this year. Once you do the cam, o-ring, studs, etc. , the twins are the logical next step!!!

Piers just sent me a new 35/40 14 and some DDP 110hp injectors.

I know I know... . I am calling Piers when I get back to town. I also might have a line on a set of twins... . have to wait and see.

Any ideas on which Cam... I guess my choice right now would be a helix2 or what ever Piers tells me to run.
