recently had new BD super B turbo and 90 hp injectors installed and a FASS 150 gph stand alone pump installed. with stock hy35 could run 26 lbs boost and 1100 max egts.

Now with new mods run 28 lbs boost max at wot and run consistant 1100-1250 egts under normal daily driving with tc in lockup. Is this normal or would a fueling box help this or make egts even higher?

What size housings do the BD super B turbo have? It seems to spool up slow.

Don't get me wrong this thing now hauls A**. or in my wifes words after the first time she drove it OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!! :--)

Why is a tst recommended by many with the EZ over just running an Edge comp?

The tst box is just fueling, ez is just timing, the comp is timing and fueling. So stacking the tst and the ez gives you lots of fuel and timing. Someone correct me if im wrong.

is the turbo wastegated. the waste gate could be opening at 28lbs. do you have an adjustable boost elbow. also have you looked into the smarty alot of people really like it and all i have read is good things about it. Good luck

OK. The Edge EZ is timing and fueling within the limiting parameters programmed into the VP-44 and ECU. In other words, the EZ can advance the timing and provide more fuel than stock at a certain RPM and load, but never more than the ultimate limits programmed into the VP-44 and ECU. When the Comp "taps the wire", it's going around these limiting parameters.

I did not know where my EZ was set so I checked it today it was on the low setting so I jumped it to the high setting. Egts came down to earth that way but it is not quit as snappy as in the low setting and smokes a lot more when gettin after it. I will try the mid setting and give that a try and post how it does. still only 28 lbs boost wot on high setting and slow spool up.

Nobody has answered my original question of why a TST,EZ stack is more popular than an edge comp box? this is the 3rd time in 2 threads Ive asked this. I am looking at getting one and am wanting a comp but everyone says go TST. WHY?

Does anyone know and what sized housings on this turbo in first post of this thread

I talked to some reps straight from BD and if I remember right they set wastegates around 40 psi or so. Also if I remember right it is a 57mm wheel??

The TST sometimes is more popular because between it and the EZ it can add more horsepower than the comp by itself. I have the comp and sont have any complaints at all.

Another suggestion would be to check all your intercooler boots. I am replacing mine as we speak because of them rubbing on the fenders and wire looms.

It sounds like you've got too big of an exhaust housing on the new turbo, or possibly too big of a turbo altogether. What you are describing sounds like you are "under the turbo" most of the time. Why did you change turbos in the first place if you had max EGTs of 1100* with the HY? Was that with the injectors too or just the EZ? Either way, I don't know that you really needed a turbo upgrade with those mods in the first place.

I don't know what size housings they put on the Super B turbos, but I think that turbo is also based off an S300G. So it's probaby either a 12cm2 or a 14cm2.

To answer your question, I think a fueling box like the TST would actually help in your case. It sounds like you don't have enough fuel to spin that turbo.

Try clamping off the wastegate hose on your new turbo and go for a spin. If you're still only getting 28psi, you need more fuel. You can just use a pair of vise-grips to clamp it temporarily. If you see more boost with it clamped, then your wastegate needs adjusted.

Thanks for the input Tgibbs and Heavyhauler I will try the wastegate clamp trick tomorrow and see what I get.

Today I pinched off the wastegate hose and tried it. Still only 28lbs boost not enough fuel for this turbo I guess. I just ordered a new Edge comp box this morning also :D . will post results in a week or so when I get it in and try it out.

HAy bill how it going with the new parts I take it you did not get the comp bow off of e bay are you getting a new. Ok hope you get thing running good.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

Changing the turbo in your Diesel is like changing the Cam in a gasser...

Less low end more top-end...

You may be right on the turbo on a diesel but you couldn't be anymore wrong about cams in gassers there are just as many low end power band cams than there are race cams. (RV cams) as many call them.

Sure are... Same with turbo's... . The KwikSpool series is on turbo that comes to mind, the HY-9 is a great low-end turbo, as well as the small phat shaft's.

Just like a gasser's cam design, so does the diesel's turbo design affect the engine's power band.

You have a total of 12", but only 6" with any setup. . Where do you want your power? On the bottom? or the Top? Maybe the middle?

The Factory setup is a honest to goodness all around smooth setup, 70% for everybody. With the same truck, my Dad can use the 1,000 - 2,000RPM range, while, I can jump in the same truck and use the 2,000 - 3,000RPM range,, compared to my truck. . It works best in the 1,800 - 3,600RPM range,, LOL. My Dad smokes out the town when he drives my truck!

My $. 02

Merick you just hit the nail on the head I didn't want to get long winded in my last post about it. I am just going through a learning curve with the new set up First time driver of a bigger turbo I was too used to low end spoolup and a very sorry transmission. My new comp box should be here in a few days then I will have to learn my pickup all over again :D .
