I just finished putting on a new PDR HX-40. I am having a real hard time keeping my foot from the floor. How many miles do you guys sugest I put on it before I go full power. I am sure glad its raining out!!!:D Now its time for bigger injectors!

Hi Kevin,

I would put at least 100miles on it before going over 40 psi for proper break in. Ease into and out of the throttle too.

Kevin,

I made great power and had good luck with my HX 40 wastegated to 40lbs. My advice would be to keep your foot out of it for 100miles and not go over 40psi for 100,000 miles. . ;) :). Seriously, if you need more then forty lbs to cool your engine, get a bigger turbo or make them plural:D :D. Larry

I think Piers told me to take it easy for 300 miles when I got mine. Give him a call and he will let you know for sure. Definitely don't exceed 40psi boost if you want it to last though. He told me that at least 3 times on my out the door.

As far as pre lubing, on my big turbo's gasket package it said prelube prior to installing oil line then start and run for 1 Min. Breaking in is a good idea like the others said, one thing I noticed(and this is weird) once I put some miles on it the big turbo came in quicker(spooled quicker) doesn't make sense to me.

Piers recommends not going over about 20lbs for the first 50 miles or so. I went a little longer on my second one, about 100 miles (yes, the bearings died at 150 miles on my first one, and I followed Piers' instructions exactly. But it was replaced and all is well, and that's another story anyway). Piers typically sets the wastegate at 40lbs if it has one. Over 40 is a waste and puts more stress on the turbo than what is necessary, according to him. I'll go with that.

Mine seems to peak at 42lbs and works great at WOT going up 7% grades at 95mph (empty).

I did pre lube the turbo with oil while spinning it by hand. Now that i have about 100 miles on it i guess i can start easing into it. I was really hoping it was going to sound different than my stock hx-35, but then again I can barely hear it at all over strait piped stacks a few feet behind my head. PS: I think thw wastegate said something like 38 or 40 PSI
