Well I never thought I would say this, but I think I need a bigger turbo. You can see in my signature what I have done as far as mods but I have a few questions for the bigger turbo gurus out there.

Well the EZ and 275 injectors drive the HX40 for day to day driving or am I better off with an HX35? I have a PE but do not run it often because of road conditions (Ice).
Will either one of these help my unloaded EGT's? and by how much?
Will I get a HP increase?
I guess what I am asking is how much driveability am I going to loose in my day to day stop and go driving??
I figure that either one will get sent to Majestic turbo and get balanced and competition preped, as I heard this helps with the lag.
Lastly, what size housing for the HX40?? or 35??
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for all the info.

This is the same delima that troubled me a few months back. I started with the PE, then had it upgraded to a 1,2,4, then added the EZ, then the transmission mods, then DDIIs. Before the injectors I could use level 4 but only for a short time. After the injectors I could only use level 1 for a short time.

So I went with the HX35 from an ETH and I put on a 16cm2 non-wastegated housing. To say the least I was dissapointed, I only saw a drop of 50-100deg pre turbo not to mention I lost 2-5# of boost. I still couldn't use the PE past level 1 and then not for long periods.

So I traded the HX35 to a gentleman with a 01 auto theat had an EZ and 275s and for now he runs this combo with no guages.

I no have an HX40 with a 16cm2 wastegated housing (no mods. . ie-balancing or clipping) and a jardine 4" and I can tell a large difference in the EGTs. Now I can pull in level 2 and use level 4 for drag racing or whatever. Max egt level 4 is 1500 with 33# at wot 100mph.

I plan on toying a little with the wastegate to increase boost which should decrease egts.

Sorry for the long post, but its a long journey lol.

To be honest with you, I doubt highly that an EZ and 275's will power an HX-40 Turbo. I was told not to long ago that minimum requirements for an HX-40 would be DD2's, a boost module, and fueling box.

I would have to say stick with an HX-35 with a 12cm2 housing. A bigger housing will increase turbo lag, but will help lower EGT's little by little. So no matter what you do, you have both a positive and negative affect.

With the HX-35, you won't lose any driveability, this is the same turbo that is on my truck and I have no issues with it at all. It performs great.

Hope this helps.

The EZ box alone is more than enough to power the hx40. I have been running that setup for several months now. If you look at the dyno graph torque numbers the EZ box and DD stage 3's are very close. Anything that adds alot of fuel on the bottom end will be capable of spooling up that turbo fairly quick like the EZ,VA+boost module,or DD stage 3+boost module. I even unplugged the EZ box and went for a test run to see how a stock fueled truck would do. Several things became apparent right off. Without the extra fuel on the bottom end it took twice as long for the boost to come up and when it finally did get up to full boost the pump defueled and the check engine light came on because it overboosted. All you need is more fuel on the bottom end and a boost module to run the hx40.

Well it sounds like the HX40 with a 16 cm housing may be in my future. Are there any suprisies that I need to know about. I know I need a new down pipe for my 4" exhaust. Any others, I assume that the HX40 will bolt rigth on to the manifold?? Does any one have any opnions on the work Majestic does to the HX40? I read a few posts about how much it improved response on the low end, but not much has been said since. Thanks for all the info...

JR2, when the HX40 discussion started some time ago, part of the R&D was comparing drive pressure (exhaust manifold pressure) of the different turbo combos. It took less drive pressure on an HX40-16 than it did on a HX35-16 to generate the same boost. I would say most of that is because of the larger diameter exhaust outlet of the HX40. I believe the HX35-16 will be more of a dog on the low end compared to the HX40-16, and what bpete experienced makes sense. Going to a larger housing on the HX35 only does so much good since you still have to blow the exhaust out a 2. 5" hole (or is it 2. 75"??)

You should contact Sportbike, he will fill you in if you have any questions.

ps Holset price on HX40 are going up 6% March 1st #ad

If you think one turbo is good,Then you should try two. I have the twin system up and running now. All that I can say is it,s AWSOME!!!!!!!!!Under normal drive conditions I used to see 5-8psi in each gear. Now I,m seeing 20-25psi. You find your self letting off the throttle as you excellerate. Thats with the fueling box off.

Hi, my name is Dean and I'm a BOMBaholic, if drinking all this horsepower doesn't kill me, the wife will for sure. Sport, a day after my HX40 is installed and now we're about twin turbos. My Visa is getting hotter than my EGT's, maybe it needs a larger exhaust housing of it's own. I think I've already got a burn mark on my right cheek.

As far as driveability goes, there is about a second more of lag and then watch out. With the PE on level 3 my EGT's don't go past 1200. At C MPH I backed off reminding myself it's a truck. On the Dyno, the 40 is good for an average of 22HP

Update... I noticed that at full power my filter minderwould pull down 50% (K&N in stock airbox). I took the RE-0880 of the shelf (waiting on psycotty) and put it in. What a difference! EGTs down another 100deg, and quicker spool up. Hopefully this weekend I can scare up a race from a GMC C3 that is new to town. Tomorrow will install a new brass elbow to increase boost.
