Well after finding out this past weekend that the pin has been pulled and the fuse is burning(. 020" radial play, occasional puff of blue smoke, 1. 5qt consumed on 690 mile trip) on my current turbo(H1-C) I started shopping for a replacement. I figure if I'm plunking down the cocos for a turbo I might as well upgrade :D . The replacement was shipped today. Paul Scharf of Don Scharf Automotive came to the rescue again. He was able to dig up a HX35W with only 46k on it. Should have it on Monday. I starting a weekend bombing session after work tommorow. Hope to have the 95 intercooler cut in and ready for the brackets to be welded on by Saturday morning when the local Radiator shop opens up. Hope to have intercooler mounted before I leave the shop on Saturday. Install needs to be finished by Wednesday night as deer season opens on Thursday. I'll keep you all posted. Next post probably won't be til Sunday night.

Update

Didn't get as far as I wanted this weekend. The welder at the radiator shop had the day off so the brackets are going to be welded on the intercooler tomorrow. The replacement turbo came on Friday but it looks like it's going to need an overhaul before use. I knew this was a possibility going in as the turbo came off of a core engine. My parts supplier for the shop is checking into a rebuild kit for me. Should know something by noon on Monday. The good news is one of the guys at our bodyshop lent me a digital camera. I have the pictures downloaded to my computer and edited but can't figure out how to post them. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Guess that's all for now.

Hey Paul!

Good luck w/ the hunt & Opening Day!

Sounds like you're in a wonderful position to be the 1st "First Gen'er" to try the PDR "SuperTurbo"!

Just my opinion... . BUT, send that HX35 back where it came from and give Piers a call...

Somebody has to be first... . It may as well be you! :D

KEENO:)

It's finally in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With hunting season and the holiday's finally over I was finally able to finish this "little" project. I did take the time to set valve lash and pump timing while I was at it, including floating the #1 intake valve on top of the piston with a dial indicator to determine true top dead center. Thanks for the idea Power Wagon:) . The new to me HX35 turbo is running very nicely pumping air through the second gen intercooler that is shoe-horned behind the grill.

I've got two days of driving on it now, what a blast. I especially like the new found ability to do a three gear burnout from a standing start. I do need to do something for a tailgate now as nothing seems to want to stay in the bed:D .

About the only disappointment I have is the loss of the "smokey finger" I used to reserve for rude drivers. The ability to make three lanes of traffic flat disapeer was kind of fun. Guess I'll have to start playing with the fuel screws after the EGT and boost gauges are installed. Hope to see the UPS man in the yard here soon.

The real test comes tomorrow when I go to get dad's loader to do some clean up around the yard. Loader and trailer come up to about 15k together, should make a good seat of the pants before and after test.

I still have the digital photos if the intercooler install stored on my hard drive, I just have to figure out how to post them. The files are currently too large to attach to a post. 6 megapixel camera takes good pictures but files tend to be large. I'd appreciate any advise to be had in this area.

I guess I've rambled enough for now, will post more results after the weekend.
