New Valvoline 5W40 Synthetic?

I just became aware that Valvoline is now marketing a "Premium Blue Extreme Synthetic SAE 5W40 Engine Oil. " For you oil experts, does this oil use a group III or group IV base stock?

NO expert but it is a group III oil. The same as Rotella T 5-40.

the bottle says CVG for the ash and other rating but I was at the nationals in Indiana and went to the Cummins engine plant... . Boy! that was great..... anyway, a valvoline rep said they had to say CVG to keep in compliance with other oils but he said in reality, it is a new CVH. the newest blend and he said the best oil for the cummins (of course he would say that... Val. rep... . ) but I got the oil and it does better in winter and it still is a 40 wt but does better in extreme winter as well. ... as well as being a synthetic. I plan on going 10,000 miles on 2 5000 mile filters. that way I recoup the cost of the oil.







Also put the Redline MTL in my 6 sped transmission. BIG difference!!! gets into reverse without rocking!!

Don't have a clue what kind of oil it is... ... . I now have had about 10 different kinds of oil in my truck. Still chasing that magical oil. Running Petro-Canada Duron on your recomdations Marc. Do I have to switch again????? LOL

John, I think the PC Duron is an excellent oil. I am using Delvac 1 in the truck and PC Duron in the cars. So no, you don't have to switch . I use Delvac 1 because I have a good supplier close by. Talk to you soon, Marc.

I visit all of the coasts (except not quite the Arctic ocean) every year towing with a PSD at 36k gross and use Delvac 1 in cars and trucks (only one gasser) year round. I used to be in the blending through retail end of lube oil and Exxon/Mobil was my competitor. 'nuff said?

I changed my oil yesterday and put in Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5W40.

I had been running AMSOIL 15W40 for a long time but got tired of having to order it. I replaced the AMSOIL with Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 since it was readily available from my local NAPA.

I'm going to run an extended change interval with oil analysis from Blackstone Labs.

I am approaching 8000 on my first use of it. No oil consumption- 1 mpg increase on average. Glad it is in we have had some cold mornings. I am using it because Cummins tested it extensively and it is sold at Cummins dealers. You probably cannot do any better- $16. 50 a gallon here. It is designed and endorsed by Cummins for extended drains in a fleet use scenario- 7500 and more in our trucks is a cakewalk.

You might want to shop around. There is no reason that oil should cost that much. At a Cummins dealer maybe, but try NAPA.
