Guys,

I learned something this weekend while modifying my pump further... ... This is probably some secret info that some folks don't want us to know, but then who really cares :p

After installing a modifed gov spring the idle speed is way high. I mentioned earlier that you can re-index the throttle shaft to help obtain an idle speed of say, 800 rpm's. Well, the problem is when you turn the fuel up that (slow) idle speed jumps up too.

This is what I have done. Sorry, no picks, yet.

I removed the throttle lever from the pump's shaft. I ground off the area of the shaft that contacts the pump's top when at full slow idle position. I then cut off the 90° piece that the idle screw contacts and welded it back farther. I welded it to the underside of the lever. This will now allow for an exagerated full fuel screw setting w/ a modified gov spring and STILL obtain a desirable slow idle speed.

Please remember that you will want 60# valve springs as well as modification(s) to the throttle linkage(s) to obtian the full range of (pump) lever movement. I would not recommend floor boarding the pedle with out the transmission engaged in some kind of gear for fear of scattering things. :D

At a certain full setting point isn't the low idle control useless? IE its gonna idle where it wants to and you could back the low idle screw all the way out and have no effect on idle... Sounds like you're giving the pump more low end reverse so to speak travel? - Course then with your throttle rod adjusted for max top end rpm's, its only going to allow the pump to go back so far right. . ?

I have a 3800rpm spring for someone to try out, a bit longer, but stiffer. Might be the answer to high r's and reasonable idle.

pump stuff

This isn't altogether relative to the thread but I recently aquired two test stands for the purpose of calibrating the pumps. I have worked on older sytle pumps but don't have any data on the VE. If anyone has any information that would be applicable, I would appreciate knowing as much as possible. Anything.

Bill,

Things/stuff changes when you reindex the position of the shaft/lever AND install a wacky spring.

You need to think out-side the box. Yes, the slow idle screw/adjustment become worhtless, untill you change the peramiters. Now you got me talking like a third genner: peramiters. "I'll plug in my "box" and adjust the fuel/timing paramiters on my Banks Six Gun/Edge Comp Box Bla Bla Bla"

My "Comp Box" is my Craftsman Roll-A-Way ... ... ... LOL
