Well i fixed an exhaust leak today;
the flange on my vee clamp between the down pipe and the hot-side turbo housing was leaking exhaust, so i called around looking for this clamp... ended up picking one up from Chrysler
today changed clamps, now it seems that i dont have the suck you back in the seat oomph i had while it was leaking... I cant verify any of this cuz i dont have a boost gauge yet. My thought was maybe that little leak let off enought backpressure to let the turbo spool up quicker... sound right??

Hey Joe, I think you might be right. My truck is straight piped and one time (when I first rigged it on there) my exhaust brake popped the whole exhaust system off from around the transfer case back! (luckily I had the brake safety chained) It seemed like it spooled up really quick with less than 5 feet of exhaust system #ad
Your leak, being that close to the turbo, may have let it spool quicker. Like Gene says (do I always post after you Gene?) if you still have the stock exhaust system (and that worthless tin can) under your truck-----replace it with an aftermarket system, or at least put that can in the basement! This makes a good difference. You could also do 5" straight stacks like I'm in the process of doing #ad
unless your not a redneck hillbilly like me #ad

joesoot,
I just got a down pipe to tail pipe system, including muffler, from Ted Jannetty. It is a 3" mandrel bent system that replaces the factory one (same size but with out the restrictions). It was less than half of what other companies wanted for an extra 1/2". It sounds great and I have faster spool up of the turbo.

Hey Joesoot!

I've also been shopping around for an First Generation exhaust for a friend's '93 W250 CC that is being purchased in California next week (TDR Classifieds).

I have the Banks mandrel bent 3" to 3 1/2" exhaust on my truck and have replaced their huge, quiet muffler with the Walker #21468 on mine. My girlfriends '92 W250 is also set up identically. Good exhaust system but you have to order it with their muffler and then not utilize it if you want a Walker. They tend to be expensive when compared to the JRE or BD products.

BD offers a mandrel bent 3" to 3 1/2" system for $400. 00 that goes to 3 1/2" before the muffler gives you more 3 1/2" total length for the system. They use a muffler built locally but it is similar to the Walker design being a perforated core - straight through design. I don't know about the sound or durability but if BD is selling it I'm sure it's good!

I talked with Ted (JRE) yesterday about his 3" mandrel bent exhaust system that utilizes the proper Walker and complete hardware & hangers for $300. 00. He mentioned that there isn't much performance differences between the 3" vs 3 1/2" on our First Gen trucks. Joe Donnelly has also confirmed this with his experiences and dyno testing.

I begining to think I might follow "Matt S" lead and go JRE for $300. 00! Kind of sounds like Jeaprody! "Alex, I'll take JRE for $300. 00!"

Hey Joesoot!

I read you posting again and wanted to mention that all of these systems are complete "turbo to tail" systems and not CAT back.

Are you sure that you have a CAT on your 1990?
Chrysler wasn't required to use CAT's on the '89 to '93's!

I don't remmber where my old posts on 3" might be, but you can go to the TDR homepage and check my featured article air+fuel=power for some info. Basically, at 380 hp on the Dynojet, going from 3" with the Walker to 4" with no muffler gained only 7 hp.
