I have received several email about a virus going around that the antivirus software can't detect. The instructions to get rid of it tell you to search your C: drive for a specific file, and delete it, then empty the trash. It is claimed that the virus is spread by the email address book, so everyone is sending out emails to everyone in their address book telling them what to do. Well, it appears that the virus is a hoax, and the file that they have you delete is a system file, so your computer doesn't work correctly after you delete it. Of course, you emptied it from your trash, so you can't recover it. Kind of sound like the blond virus joke.

It seems like the majority of the viruses use Microsoft Outlook program to do their dirty deed. Why do people keep using it when its the vehicle for so many viruses?

Using a program other than outlook doesn't protect you from receiving the viruses, it only keeps YOU from spreading them.
