I need help. I installed a new VP44 pump today and the truck runs ruff and blows white smoke. I get a consistant 1690 code which is the pump and ecm do not agree. I know that the key is in corrct and that the lift pump is new All of my connections are good. What do I need to do on this?

Truck is an 02 1ton auto stock with 140K miles!

The code 1690 states that the vp4 CKP(cranks position sensor) does not agree with ECm CKP sensor.

I would look at CKP and its connetor also the pins related to the ckp data on the vp44 adn ECM.

I checked the connection to the pump. That looks good. I had the key installed correctly. Should I have replaced the cam sensor? Does this mean that I messed up putting the pump gear on the pump shaft? Thanks for the help, this is frustrating.

I never thought of that your vp44 mite be a few teeth off (or the cam shaft mite be a few teeth off). I would double check it make sure it is installed correctly.

The vp44 is KEYed no teeth to get wrong. If you slid the pump in carefully and did not damage the key that will not be your problem.

If you have a 0336 you are in luck (Crank sensor) otherwise ck your fuel sync signal, pump to ecm. You can also unplug your lift pump while it is running to be sure you are not getting any electrical noise generated by it causing bad signals

Thanks for the help I spoke to another TDR member that is a mechanic. He said that the pump is either not correct to the truck or the Pump Control Module is wrong for my truck. Short story is it looks like a new pump. Thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it.

Well it is hard to over come Stupidity!!!

I did not have the key lined up with the pump gear. Fixed that cleaned up the key and it runs like it is supposed to. Oh well at least I did not yell at the wonderful people who sold me the pump.
