Well after much procrastination, I ordered a VP44 from Industrial Injection. Got it installed this weekend. Read everything on TDR and had NO problems. About 8 hrs including finding tools and making a puller. Bled it and tightened the lines. It started on 2nd turn and ran well. Had smooth idle at that time. Several hours lated I started it and the idle ws pretty rough. Like a miss. Would smooth out on acceleration. Drive it about 25 miles to town and on the way back noticed it rough at about 45 mph on a very slight grade. Seems to be getting worse.

So where do I look? Does this sound like a VP44 problem or did I do something wrong?

Any CES light - or error codes?

Always possibility of trash getting into an injector line, plugging it - or a loose line getting air - any signs of fuel leakage at any of the injectors? What's your fuel PSI running?

Fuel pressure 16 idle about 11-12 WOT

2 Carter pumps on frame near tank. Filter has abt 2K miles.

No codes. MIL went out on its own (50starts?) Originally had 216s and flat pedal before changing VP44.

No visible fuel leaks. (I checked carefully)

Started easily yesterday after changing VP44 and idle was OK then. next start abt 2 hrs later idle rough. Seems worse today.

I'm embarrased.

Thanks for the response. Your comment abt leaks sent me out with a very bright LED flashlight. Found a leak on one of the lines on back of VP44. Looks like I missed tightening up on one line. Too warm out to work tonight, will get it in the AM. Can actually see fuel coming out and the line is loose. Will post results after finishing the job I obviously screwed up on!

Incidentally, spent some quality time in your part of the world last month. Beautiful state. Then had to come back to the heat in central Cal. Bummer!

AH, glad you (apparently!) found the problem - after lots of time and $$$, a guy gets REAL nervous when the problems crop up...

What area did you get to up this way? Yup, lots of nice country, even in our eastern part of the state - we love it here!

Well, it's fixed. My fault. (hard to find good help nowadays!) I failed to tighten the #1 line on the back of the VP44. Must have gotten distracted and missed it. When I look for leaks I was focusing more on the injector end and didn't see the drops on the bottom of the lines until I checked with engine running and a good light.

We spent 3 weeks in Portland last month and the went over Hood and down 97 to 395 and into Reno for a couple days. Great trip. Driving in Oregon was a PLEASURE. Folks are sure courteous on the road. AND you don't have to pump your own gas!
