Hard to believe, Washington State has figured out it has a problem with it's diesel emission testing method (30-40% failure rate).
My wife is the manager at a state auto licensing agency, she has received a directive, effective immediately, all diesel vehicles under 6000lbs GVW, or 2007 and newer are exempt from testing. this is subject to interpretation...
If you received a license renewal that states "emissions required" and you fall into this category, it's a mistake, some of the renewals were printed and mailed before the directive was issued. Also, under description, some of the renewals have a "G for passenger" instead of a "D for diesel" if you own a diesel truck, that is also a mistake.
This may change, they may start testing diesels like they do gas passenger vehicles, by simply plugging into the OBDII port and checking for codes, as opposed to the SNAP/OPACITY test, but for the present you are exempt
