Since I have the radiator pulled Im going to replace hoses, belts, tensioner pulley and thermostat on my 02.
I figured since Im here I may as well change the water pump since its 14 yrs old.
Genos has a Gates pump for $40 or $130 for a Cummins. Is the Cummins worth the extra price?
Also, for $40 more I can change the entire tensioner assembly instead of just replacing the pulley. Its a Gates but new might be the way to go?

As far as pulley, I bought the Geno's three years ago . I think the entire tensioner is best, then you don't have to go in again. It is still in there doing a good job for me. I put a Cummins water pump in, this was before I found Geno's. I have not heard any thing bad about the Gates pump. Depending on funding one's most likely as good as the other.

I also have a 2002 Cummins and just changed everything as you did. I purchased Geno's tensioner and never could keep the bely straight. I went on and purchased a new pulley and put it on original tensioner. Worked great and no belt issues. I also put Geno's Gates water pump and hoses with no problems. I am now good for another 200K miles.

The Gates pumps are junk. Way too many problems with them to consider using. Put a Cummins new pump on and forget for a couple 100k.

I received my order today with the gates pump.
From reading numerous posts, it sounds like the factory Cummins is a good pump.
Since I only have 49k mi on it and it shows no signs of leaking, I think I'm going to leave it and carry the Gates as a spare.
It looks to be a pretty easy job to replace it so I'll wait.

I installed a gates pump and it started leaking within a year. Replaced the rubber gasket and it still leaked. Installed a cummins pump and no more leaks, but quite a bit more expensive.
