Anybody going to "Meet the Mayor of Truckville?"

Help!! My kid wants a Power Wheels Truck

I just got a new update for AVG6. 0 Update #276

Got this explanation of it from Grisoft/AVG:

DESCRIPTON:

I-Worm/Apost

------------

It is a new mass mailing worm written in Visual Basic.

The worm is spreading as a file README. EXE in messages with the

subject:

As per your request!

and the body:

Please find attached file for your review.

I look forward to hear from you again very soon.

Thank you.

When is the README. EXE file is executed it copies itself into Windows

directory and create in the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

a value named "macrosoft"

pointing to the dropped copy of the worm.

Then the worm takes email addresses from Outlook address book

and starts sending itself.

Next, it displays a message box with a button 'Open'. When

you click on it, a fake error message appears:

WinZip SelfExtractor: Warning

CRC eror: 234#21

Update 276, that detects this worm, is ready on our web.

If you don't want viruses don't use Outlook express. I haven't seen any that affected any other e-mail program for a LONG time.

This an executible type virus. If you dont open the attached . exe file you wont get infected.

Opening attachments in e-mail messages is a bad idea for most computer users.

The post about outlook express is somewhat valid... most viruses are written to attack Microsoft products.

Microsoft is not generally a well liked company for most of the virus writters and more advanced computer users. Further, more people use the Microsoft products and the virus writters can get a better effect or spreading of the virus.

Even opening attachments from friends or family can be dangerous.

Don~

Don,

You're right about that. I don't open an attachment even from a regular correspondent unless I'm expecting it. A lot of these viruses attach themselves to e-mail without the knowledge of the sender. So I verify with the sender if I get an attachment that I don't expect.

I use Netscape for two reasons. The first (as you pointed out) I don't like MS products and the other is that I seldon get a virus that works on what I use.

There are other e-mail programs that work just fine with IE it you use that POS.

BTW. The new version of Netscape (6. 1) is a buggy mess so I retreated to NS V4. 77.
