Just completed install of a new Carter. I've been reading about 4-5 psi last few days. I had been at a steady 7psi for a while and was only putting of the inevitable. I picked up a new pump and harness yesterday at the Cummins dealer, $145. New pump reads 15psi at idle, 12 @wot and 13. 5 cruising @70mph. After I hit 100k I'll probably add a pusher.

Warranty?

If you're not at 100k yet aren't you still under warranty? Thought the motor was warranteed for 100k, why'd you lay out for it if you're still under warranty? Just curious, don't know if your warranty is diff than mine (2001) but I thought the Cummins was warr for 100k, including L/P and VP44... ...

Just got mine replaced under warrantly by DC this morning. Truck has 14000km and I had 12/9/5 psi at idle/cruise/wot, not I have 15/12/10 which I like much better. Drove in with Briar's test gauge taped to the window and they didn't even bother to check the pump pressures, just replaced it with no questions. :)

It feels slightly more responsive and maybe slightly better power but not by much. Dyno will tell this weekend!:D

Here's what they put on the invoice:

Qty 1, Fuel Pump 14-073-00, 05015723-AC

Qty 3, Washer 14-089-06, 15016555-AA

So it looks like I got "new improved" washers at least. Is there a newer "AA" version of the FP available, or did I get the latest model?

RE:pump

Just replaced mine today. I got it from Cummins the counter person said it was the "updated" version. PN 3990082 for 145 $ plus tax. It had a different wire harness than my old one. Ithink this one went over 100k not sure though I'll have to look it up.

I'm with Isenus. I just picked up one on Monday and it had number 3990105 on the box. I can't see that a newer one would have a lower part number?

Kevin

Man do I need a vacation. The gooey mess on my shoulder is my braing leaking out. The 3990085 # must be for the kit that includes the new wrie harness, RIGHT?? Or have I totally gone 'round the bend???

Lift Pump

Leo in the new issue of TDR page 48 they say that the new pump #is 3990082. You had me thinking that i might've got hosed on the pump.

dezeldog,

That was certainly NOT my intention. I had just bought a pump from Cummins about a month ago when my trials and tribulations started. The number then was the 3990105. I think they do this just to keep us off balance.

A. Brown,

On a 2k and up the new wiring harness is not needed. I did mine the past Sunday and the only problem I had was getting the plug out of the old one. I just could not get a good grip on it.

Hi Guys: Recieved new pump from Cummins west and reciept says 1-3990105 pump fuel(also 3990082) I am not sure but they must be one and the same. The electrical harness was listed seperatley as 1-4025182. Any help? I'm crazy too..... (Second Beer coming up!)

RE: pump

Leo, no problem. Was at cummins today they said that the 105# is just the pump and that the 082# is the pump and new harness which the older 24v ie 98 &99 need. He also said that the old style wiring is part of the problem with the pump. Corrosion etc. Who knows??

Jim

Dodge has a parts number system , Cummins has a parts number system and the number are not the same pump with AA after number is a Dodge the pump number ending with 105 is Cummins. Ron Bissett in LOUISVILLE KY:-{}
