The questions comes to mind when a manufactor such as Cummins or other manufactors decide to introduce a new engine on to the market, how long of a testing process do these engines go through. Is it like maybe a year or two year's or do the engineer's just draw up a set of plan's with the right geometry the year before introduction ,and say this will work. I've heard people make comment's before about I would never buy a first year productions engine, wait till the following year so all the bug's are worked out. So far I have not had any major problems with my 03 CTD and really enjoy driving it. Just curious about the introductions process.

Your right for over 1 year. I guess Cummins tests engines on the Europeans :-laf

I think it's just Ford that has them designed and then just installs them judging from the new 6. 0. The customer does all the testing.

:p

The 6. 0 PSD was a whole new engine from the oil drip up. The ISBe is an improvement on an already existing time tested and proven engine.
