The Yankees have figured out one thing and one thing only: How much money it will take to regain their status as the perennial favorites to win the A. L. East.
With our economy on it's derriere, expect MLB to either start losing franchises or start building a salary structure for players where those teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates will cease being farm teams for Boston and New York.
Obnoxious Yankee fans have little to thump their chests about. That team has spent the annual outlay of some Third World countries to get where they are, after having been bested by Boston, with 3/4 the salary, 4 out of the last 5 years.
MLB needs a salary cap if decent competition is to be their product. The Yankees are exhibit "A".
