Hey all, Just got my password yesterday. Have been cruising the site for about a month though. Monday I decided it was time to check my fuel pressure... ... . NONE :--)

Replaced the pump last night. Kind of a pain, but not too bad.

Seems to run better but may just be my imagination. Only had the truck about 2 months so I have no idea how long it's been dead. Hope my injection pump is OK.

After reading some of the LP threads, I'm thinking about plumbing the fuel line though the P\S pump!... ... just kidding.

If I saved my VP44 it is because of this site. I gladly forked over my $35 to be a member! :)

OK, now lets see,... ..... gauges... . VB... ... CT... ... EZ comp... ... DD2's

Sorry, day dreaming again!

Welcome, I found that mine was dead when I checked it. That was a couple of months ago. Hope I also have a good VP44, but if not I hope it dies under warranty :D

Welcome to the club. As I'm sure you've seen, there's a lot of info here. Knowledge is power! How many miles on your rig when the lift pump croaked?

Mileage

75K. FDNYMOPARGUY, Looks like the original one... . had to buy the updated harness to fit the new one. No clue how long it was bad. Could have been 20k for all I know.

My trans would hunt in and out of OD at 45-50mph, much worse w/ a load. Is it possible that the LP was causing this? Haven't had it loaded since I changed the pump.

What is the warranty on the VP44 to the second owner?

Same as the 1st owner. Get out your owners manual with the warranty book it spells it out. Most are 5 year 100K miles on anything that is stuck on the engine. The lift pump is part of the fuel system per the DC service manual it is also attached to the engine. So it should be covered. Look at the search function, you will see a lot of discussion on this topic. Good luck.

Welcome aboard! Because of this site I installed guages. About 45 day later I saw '0' pressure on my lift pump. That sounded funny. (the board did not cause the failure, just the guage install) Anyway, I had no symptoms, truck ran fine. I think I saved my injection pump that helped both me and the dealer.

tking- Your LP should have been covered under the original warranty, too bad you changed it out yourself already. Could have saved yourself some $$.

As far as the trans hunting in and out of OD there is a TSB that may need to be implemented by the stealer, don't know if your year is affected, forgot to check the year of your vehicle before replying. The dealer would have to reflash the ECM, it is supposed to address this problem I believe.

Check out Dave Fritz's web page for a list of TSB's for your year truck, the TSB I'm referring to is 18-024-00. His site is at

Good luck and welcome aboard... ... .

The TSB is 18-02-99 and covers trucks built 1/98 to 12/98. I just had the same issue with mine and oddly enough after replacing the MAP sensor is working normally again. This has also been blamed on the APPS, AC voltage from the alternator, bad output shaft speed sensor and bad connections. If you've got a good dealer to go to it would be easier to let them fix it but if you're the adventurous type... ..... ;)

Thanks zimman20. I still have the old one. Maybe I'll put it back on

and see if I can get a warranty one! Keep the one I bought as a spare... . I'll probably need it someday. :(

Just looking at the warranty info... . Cummins 5 year 50k warranty has a specific list of what is covered. The VP44 is listed but the LP is not. Oh well, can't hurt to try.

My truck was built 1-99 so it shouldn't need the flash, right?

Probably ought to change the fluid and filter since I don't know anything about previous service.

Same thing happened with me, all the talk about dead lift pumps led me to get a gauge. Hooked at up and SUPRISE, 4 PSI. These boards are great. I have learned a huge amount of info about these trucks on here. Stuff nobody would ever know otherwise. I cant imagine what life would be like owning an Cummins Ram without having the TDR.

Even the Clockspring recall, i heard about it here LONG before DC let me know. And a week after i heard it here, CRUNCH, mine went and i knew exactly what it was.

I am actually scared to know what the next problem is since as soon as i read it here, it will happen to me most likley.

Yep, you're right. Looking at EZ and 275's. Emailed several members from ads in the classified section... ... only one response and his was sold. I was a little disappointed. Either remove the ad or be prepared from someone to want what you're advertising.

Seems like common sense.

Guess I'll have to buy new. Who's got a good deal on an EZ?
