I Have a 96 12-valve 180hp engine that I want to build up For Daily Driving,Mild towing , And Spankin' powerstrokes.

heres my plans so far:

New Pistons ?????? which ones ???

head and main studs

O-ringed head

balanced rotating assembly

4" or 5" Straight Exhaust

ATS exhaust manifold

Fluid Dampner

Upgraded Valve Springs

This engine will be in a 79 K20 Chevrolet

NV4500/Np203/np205 Combo

Hi-pinion Dana 60/14bolt with 4. 10 gears and Detroit lockers and Disc Brakes

37" Goodyear MTR's

9" total lift

Stainless drivelines

I want to see 475-550 reliable streetable horsepower

what pump mods do I need????

which Injectors ??????

Turbo(s)???????

Cam ??

Timing??

CLUTCH???????

Also I tow about 15,000 pounds through mountain grades so low EGT's are a must as is cold weather starting

any Ideas???? Thanks, Gus

well lets start by, 1kdp killed is a must 2 get some guages 3 (4 or 5in)exhaust and a ats piece manifold would be good . 4 #4or5 plate 5 (4gsk kit 60#valve spings) 6 now the injectors hmm i ran 370's and didnt care for them and swithed to 518's not sure what the 370's would dyno at. dont waste your time with the pistons , the hp your after you wont need to change them. as far as a turbo their are a lot of great turbos out there . Im partial to Industrial injections turbos a ps64 would support the hp your after. I see that your pulling through some mountains so you might want to think about a small set of twins so you could control those egts a little better tho. As far a a cam not to sure if you will need it but if you have the cash throw one in while its ripped down. Timing is gonna depend on how much fuel your your pushing you cant advance your timing to much if you dont have the fuel to support it . Not sure on the clutch but i know a lot of guys are running a south bend cluth. hope this helps. OH yeah gonna need some delivery valves too (191's would be good). And last but not least dont forget to install a valet swith your gonna need it lol. later

Ok... if your dead set on rebuilding it...

Pistons... not really nessissary... although if you need to have it bored, I'd give Haisley Machine a call.

Studs are nessissary for an O-ring or Fire Ring job.

The bottom end studs, while are nice, aren't nessissary at the power level you are looking to be at.

Balancing the Rotating assembly is a GREAT thing. The Fluidampener will also help, and is sometimes nessissary depending on the clutch.

When you do a 4,000rpm Governor Spring kit, the Valve springs are also nessissary.

To get that kind of power out of your injection pump... . Just take it to your local Diesel Injection shop. Tell them you want it Maxed and Balanced.

Injectors, I'd give Industrial Injection a call. As long as you have them on the phone, talk to them about Turbos and if you really need a cam to be at the power level you are looking at, with the EGT's you are looking for. You can also discuss Timing with them.

Clutch, Give Peter at South Bend Clutch a call. No one will treat you better.

Any other questions... feel free to ask!

Might want to consider getting an aftermarket air intake like an AFE or BHAF that would fit your setup. Also HTT makes an exhaust manifold very similar to the ATS so you might consider them as an option.

Not really an engine mod option but if you do a lot of mountain towing, you might look at an exhaust brake while you are at it.

Doubt that new pistons are really needed unless there is a reason to suspect an engine problem.

granny gear, doublers, 4. 10 gears and a cummins :D you'll need to take a video of how fast it will move. Might need to measure and see if it acctually does :-laf . Good luck with the build sounds like it will be a cool truck.
