Newbie 1st gen advice

Alright most of my research on this site has been for the 2nd gen. I just picked up a 1st gen donor for my wifes suburban. If someone wanted to do some mild upgrades to pick up some more hp/trq what should I do first. After I add guages and tab the KDP. Thanks in advance. This will be a family hauler/grocery getter. But I want it to have enough power to get out of its way if you know what I mean. :-laf

All your answwers are there.

Get familiar with that, read thru a couple of times, then we can help fill in any blanks.

Basically you can do a lot for free and only very little $$.
