wvo to Jet-B mix advice

crude oil in montana ???????

I am a new owner of a Dodge Ram 2003. I am not a mechanic but would like to learn as much as I can about my truck. Eventually I would like to run it on WVO.

I have some dumb questions but here goes. Also this is my first post on TDR.

I know there is a 12 and a 24 valve engine also a common rail engine. How do I know which one I have?

What my engine displacement?

How many cylinders?

System Voltage?

Horsepower?

Injection Pump Type?

I have a manual 5 speed Trans. I read a thread full of arguments for each so no need to add yours here.

Is there a better model for the WVO conversion? I have alrerady run it about 1500 miles on B99.

Thanks for your knowledge and i'll have many more stupid Questions to come.

How many Cylnders? lets see? 6 in the engine, 1 master on the brake pedal/firewall intersect and 4 slaves on the big round thingy's.

Sorry I'm an ***, READ all posts on this site and you will be an XPERT.

If you go to the home page , and look down the left side , what your looking for is the buyers guide , it brakes down each yr & md with specs . also heres a site that you can find a lot ,
Oh ya , welcome .

SG< Ignore those guys, We all were new here at one time. :)

Ok Questions... You have a Six Cylinder, 24 Valve, 5. 9 Liter (359 Cubic Inches) Turbo Diesel Engine, With the High Pressure Common Rail Fuel system.

Horse power I don't know off of the top of my head, 305 HP comes to mind, There is a Decal on your engine that spells it out.

Your Electrical system is 12 Volt.

You have a HPCR system, the Injection pump is CP3, which is a gear type pump that pressurizes a "Common Rail" to about 23,000 PSI. The Injectors are controlled by the Engine's ECM that fires them at the right time and pluse width.

In My Humble Opion (IMHO) the best models for a WVO conversion would be: A; A 2nd Gen 12 Valve(94 to 1998. 4) or B; A 1st Gen (89 to 93). :D The 2nd Gen has the best Injection Pump, the P7100 piston pump that is Lubed by the engine's oil pump. The 1st Gen has a VE type rotatary pump that works well too. I hav a VP44 pump on my Y2K that I've learned it's control circuits do not like heat, as in WVO :{ Go to the Alternative Fuel threards here. You can try www.Frybrid.com or Greasecar.com also. You might want to go to www.greasel.com also.

WVO in the common rail motors (Cummins as well as others) is a question without an answer. People are doing it, but the jury is out as to the reliability. The tolerances in the CR injection system are very tight and there are a fair number of injector failures with just diesel (both our motors and the Duramax). Time will tell is WVO is ok for the CR motors. I don't want to be a genia pig with my new 06. I am, however, going to run biodiesel when I can get things up and running.
