Intro and my new used 01 3500 24V DRW

First diesel, first full-size.

Hello All,

I just purchased a used 2016 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 LTR Cummins in it and so far I am in love with it. This is my first time ever owning a Diesel, let alone a truck this big. The truck has roughly 44k miles on it and so far runs like a top. Are there any operating tips, maintenance tips that anyone can provide for me. So far I am averaging about 18-18.5 MPG when driving on the interstate. I work about 30 miles away from my house so my round trip is about 60 per day. We bought this truck to pull our larger bumper pull camper and so far it has no issues with this trailer. Thanks for any suggestions and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Don't baby it, And don't use it as a "grocery geter". Your thirty mile trip will be good for it. For Short trips the soot traps are not happy.

Enjoy your new ride and welcome.

Hello all! I'm like Justin, a newbie. My folks had purchased a new 2nd generation many years ago brand new and we all fell in love. i recently bought a 2018 with 100 miles on the odometer. I have many questions, but what maintenance schedule should I follow? Any tips for the first 100-1000 miles?

Welcome to the TDR site.
I always suggest to read the owners manual, and refer to it often when you have a question. If you have a operating question then by all means ask it here on the TDR forum. Remember, there is no dumb question. But as an other suggestion, use the search engine first to see if you can find a answer to your problem first.
Fill out your profile so we have some sort of idea of what you have, and who you are.
Welcome.

And dont install a cold air intake or anything else in this direction.
It's a Turbo and so there is always as much air in the Engine as he demands.

Use the engine brake frequently to often, that keeps the turbo vanes free from soot.

Welcome to the forum. If you are a paying member you can access the Buyer's guide for your truck model year. This on line booklet is very informative and should answer a lot of your questions as to maintenance, filters and oil for your truck.

X2, on the exhaust brake I run mine about 90% of the time. The other 10% is when the roads are covered with ice and/or when I forget to turn the brake on right away.

Welcome to the forum bud! Like stated, make sure you do step on it every so often to keep everything moving freely. Try not to let it idle too long. Warm up and cool down is normal. It's good to see you have a 30 mile trip one way as alot of folks tell me they are only doing about 10 lol. It wouldnt hurt to hook up to that trailer you have and tow it every so often to load the engine a little bit more if possible.
