I am proud owner of 01 2500 quad-cab short bed cummins auto pickup. The service manager at my five-star says DC recommends an exhaust brake for towing. My question is how do I lock-up the convertor when I want to activate the exhaust brake? Are there any adverse effects to the transmission? Thanks.

Contact DTT, they have a smartcontroller for this purpose. However, you may need beef up your transmission before. Also be advised that DC will void the warranty on your transmission when you install an exhaust brake with an auto.

BTW, I will be installing one on mine this spring.

What part of the world do you hail from?

Thanks. I hail from Southern Illinios. Wonder why my five-star service manager would recommend an exhaust brake. He is a very nice guy. I doubt he would lure me into doing something just so he could void my warranty.

You may want to do a search on this site. There was a discussion a couple months ago about this. Seems DC used to offer an exhaust brake for autos then because of problems actually removed them via a recall??? Now they only recommend manula only without voiding the warranty.

Here is my personal view on this! I had DTT products installed in my truck at around 22k miles. ( I now have 36k) To me, if you have DTT products installed, you don't need the warranty on your transmission anyway. JMHO.

Disclamer... ... ... ... I'm not affiliated with DTT. I mentioned what I did above because that is what I have. I can't comment on other trans companies.

Good luck, and happy towing
