Hello, I am looking at upgrading the exhaust on my 93 extended cab 2wd. After looking around I found a bunch of exhaust systems and would like your guys opinions on the best ones. What are you using and what do you recommend? Has anyone tried the jannetty racing high flow 3 inch system? Is 3 inch big enough to make any difference in the egr? Thanks

I'm going to agree with the 4" pipe size... that is enough to deal with pretty much all of the mods your going to end up doing... . that pipe size will handle the exhuast volume without any trouble.

pb... .

If you don't plan many power mods, the stock size is fine. I run a gutted stock muffler on both my trucks. If you know how to do it, there is virtually no noise difference between a properly gutted muffler and stock... yet from a performance point, they are nothing but a wide spot in the exhaust.

I have written instructions for how to gut a muffler. If anyone is interested, send me a PM with an e-mail address where I can send the instructions.

4" from stem to stern from http://www.sourceautomotive.biz/ with 4" downpipe.

welcome to the funny farm

That is the place I got my 4" at reasonable price too

EDIT: Rip included a 4" resonator and the only drone or other noise is what folks on the outside hear :-laf Got nothing in the cab. It even quieted the Scotty 2 some :)

Nate,

Some people do not like a lot of noise! I haul people in the topper on both my trucks down here in Mexico...common and legal down here. I do not want to deafen my passengers!

I tow a heavy trailer several times a year, and do not want a drone problem. My trucks have NO drone at any speed, throttle, or load. Some people consider that a big plus!

I like the gutted muffler idea for the school bus fleet. I recently removed a muffler and the drivers would return and tell me that the engine "don't sound right!" It really makes the turbo talk not to mention the exhaust note!!

One guy said he parked the bus and got under it to see if the system had rusted and fallen from the bus!!!!

I use the Nelson straight through muffler now on all (school) bus applications. Four inch in and out. Nice tone. There is a picture of it in a past issue of the TDR. The one with the guy looking through it.

My personal trucks haven't seen a muffler in years.

I don't find my truck to be very loud... . though I have like 40% hearing loss :-laf

My truck has stock exhaust with no muffler and no drone at any speed, throttle, or load. I will admit it is a bit loud out the back, but not as bad as 4". It may be different inside a camper shell though.

I have a 4 inch system (w/3 inch downpipe) with a muffler that I got from Janetty (not listed in his site. . call him and ask). It's quiet... . no drone at all at highway speeds, and it gave me significant performance improvements.

I agree that 4 inch is the way to go.
