I don't see an introduction forum so I guess this goes here. New guy in Maryland with a 92 W-250/Automatic Cummins. Been a Mopar guy for almost 40 years, figured it was time to see what the Cummins life was all about.

Truck has 150K+ on it (broke odometer, like the rest) and seems to have been moderately well cared for. I did a lot of basic maintenance stuff bearings, races, brakes & U-joints in the front axle, bearings 3" shoes/cylinders in the rear. Fluid changes, etc. I put on a 4" exhaust 'cause the old one was rotted off. I've put about 5,000 miles on this thing and noticed a couple things; Mileage is disappointing about 14 MPG, daily driving it like an old lady. P.O. installed a Denny stage 2 fuel pin and 3200 RPM Governor spring - aside from that and the 4" exhaust it is (I think) stock. It also really doesn't seem to have all that much power. When I do get on it (rarely) it just isn't impressive at all. Feels like a 318 truck to be honest - I expected more. Other than a light puff at startup it doesn't smoke even under heavy throttle. I've had many Dodge gas trucks over the years and at this point I don't see the appeal of the Diesel, maybe when I find an excuse to tow something I'll feel different but for now I'm not impressed. I'm OK with slow if its thrifty & I'm OK with thirsty if it's fast - this thing is thirsty & slow am I expecting too much?

Any guess what rear end gears you have? I had an 89 with the 3 speed auto. It had a 3.07 rear a bit slow off the line WOT was 74 down hill with a tail wind. On the highway it would give between 17-19 mpg day in day out. Drove it for 11 years and well over 500000 miles. By far the best truck I ever owned.
I’m not sure when the intercooler was installed 91 or 92 but when it came they changed the size of the turbo lowering the boost pressure and added a bit of turbo lag that my 89 didn’t have. Banks used it offer a fast turbo kit for those trucks that helped. Depending on the rear end and how the injection pump timing was set really effects the MPG’s. While not a rocket ship that today’s new trucks are. It’s only 160hp and 400 ft/lbs it will pull way better and harder than any 318 ever built.
Welcome to the family. You have a really great truck. Give it half a chance and you will have many happy miles with it.

We need to work on your truck! My 30 thousand pound tool truck get 23, did you adjust your injecton pump afc, smoke screw, and power screw! Is it four wheel drive?

I'm in the mid-atlantic so we're sort of having winter and on cold mornings it does take a few miles for the trans to warm up enough for overdrive but, once warm yes, it does shift into O.D. I do plug it in on a timer and the working block heater runs for a couple hours prior to start up when it's below freezing. It does start almost instantly. As far as the pump tweaking - no clue P.O. said he had a friend put in the fuel pin & gov spring - that's all he knew. The lack of smoke leads me to believe it hasn't been futzed with too much. Yes, it is 4WD.
