New to the forum. Thought I would introduce myself. Bought a 2016 2500 Laramie 4X4 6.7 DSL CC from a retired fireman in Phx. He was pulling a 35ft 5er and it is all set up with 20K Curt Hitch, 38 Gal Aux Tank, and Rear Air Bags.

We plan on traveling again (retired in 2014) and are going back to a 5er (sold the Motorhome).

Already took her in to the local dealer for the recalls (tailgate, transmission solenoid). They are waiting on the water pump.

Still learning about these trucks so I will be on here a lot. Thanks

You will need to spec out the 5er for 2500 GVW, the 2500 VS 3500 GVWs are separated from the 2nd / 3rd and early 4th Gens.

Yesterday at 109th and HWY 65 I witness a 4th Gen 2500 have way more body (making turn to fast) roll then I would like to see, if it would have been windy he would have flip it right in the middle of the intersection, He had WAAAAAAAY more trailer than truck.

IMHO , I would sell the Hitch and get a GN setup. Much better weight distribution on the GN, Sure the 5er keeps the trailer more level but the pulling unit pays the price in body roll and lift.

Evidently you are not too familiar with gooseneck hitches on fifth wheels, many do it ,and many have had frame problems on their fifth wheels. Most will deny warranty on the fifth wheel if someone converted to a gooseneck hitch. Not good advice for anyone converting to a gooseneck hitch on a fifth wheel. They are setup for a conventional hitch, and should be left that way.

Best advice stay with the conventional hitch, and stay within his weight ratings.

Better weight distribution on the gooseneck, thats hard to believe. You have a single point of attachment in the bed, by extending the fifth wheel hitch to a gooseneck, you are not changing anything other then putting more leverage on the pin box, and frame still a single point of attachment. Most importantly is the attachment be over the axle or just slightly forward. That would apply whichever way you go , that determines the best weight distribution, not whether it be a gooseneck or conventional hitch, both are attached in a single point, nothing changes that .

You are setup well for a fifth wheel, stick with what you have. The hitch will cover anything that you SHOULD be towing with that 2500. Absolutely no need in changing the hitch. Stay within your payload ratings, and things will be great .

Larry,

Welcome to the TDR! I've been a member since 2000 and has paid for itself in spades. I have gotten help trouble shooting problems, choosing power and accessory upgrades, and shared the same with the group. There's a lot of diversity in opinions and some pretty colorful folks on the TDR as you will see. I look forward to you sharing your stories and the progress in using your truck. Let us know what you end up with in an RV.

Cheers, Ron

comrade larry - congrats on the new to you truck. this forum is very useful. many good comrades here. i joined this forum before i even bought my 2500. happy trucking! and, cheers....

Hi Larry, welcome. Can you expand on the motor home you had, and the pro/ con, and why you chose to go back to a trailer?
I’ve never RV’d but often debate in my mind which is the better way.
