Hi guys,

Well, it looks like reading the TDR might be a bad influence for someone who was going to leave his truck stock, and just drive it...

Talking to a fella in town about doing my 47RE with a triple disk tc, etc. He advocates 100% lock up. I see where some of you use 89 to 93% and wonder if 100% isn't a little extreme. I believe I should get some input from someone who knows a little(lot) more than I do before I pull out my plastic.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Newbie

Well I think you have the wrong impression about the right thing. You MUST have 100% lockup when the clutch is locked up or else the thing would smoke itself in a short time. The think that you saw was refering to the Torque Converter itself. The impellers and stuff inside that are "fluid coupled" can be made tighter or smother. The tighter it is the better..... to a point and then you start having drivabilty problems..... like the Torque Converter is so good (read tight) that you have to use lots of brake to make the truck stop. The transmission parts and peices need to be matched to your truck..... mostly stock, or 500rwhp will make a big difference. I'm no expert but I try to read alot on this subject on TDR as this is a bomb that I would like to have soon. Oh by the way DON'T ASK WHAT TRANS IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER :-{} . Many people have died (well almost) over this on TDR. Best bet is to do a search on some of the Companies. DTT, ATS, Suncoast come to mind. Also there are single disk and triple disk choices. Hope this helps, Welcome to TDR!!
