newbie question

You will have to forgive some of the question I ask on here since I am new to diesels.



I see people talking about removing the silencer ring but what the heck is it?



Is it part of the exhaust?

It's in the turbo, if you remove the turbo side of the the air intake hose you'll see it inside. it's the snap ring looking thing in there. No performance gain from removing it, some guys just like the sound of the turbo.

Thanks for the info.

If I was to change to a box like the Volant would this be removed in the process or could it stay in place? If there is no advantage to removing it then I see no need to take it out.

No need to dig it out of there. You might want to look into the AFE Mega air Cannon. Volant is too new to see if it's worth the $ but I know a few guys are running it, time will tell. Here a link if you want to look at the mega Canon
