Just thought I'd say "Hi" to all. I've recently joined (subscription and all), after lurking for years.

I just took delivery of my 08 3500 after 15 years w/ my 1st Gen (purchased new). When I took delivery of that one, I put my 18 month old son in the driver's seat, and said "here, you can have this when you're 16". I just made good on that promise... ... ... . and it feels great. Plus, I get a new truck!

The old truck served me unbelievably well for these 15 years, towing everything I could throw at it, in all sorts of conditions, and giving my family and I many happy memories. I can't think of a better legacy for the truck than continuing to serve my son in the same capacity. We will be doing some rehab to it, with learning the maintenance skills as the main priority.

Anyway, I look forward to learning about my new truck, and using the tips and advice here to help better it.

Welcome to the TDR!

That's a great first post, I wish I would have saved my 99 for my son.

(He's now 12 years old)

Here's a pic of "Old Red" and my son when he was around three.

Hey... Great choice in color on the '08. I traded up from my '01. 5 second gen to the '07, 5. 9. I am sure you are appreciating the refinements between the first gen to the new truck. The first gen was the true pioneer of diesel powered pickups in my book.

That's a great story. I'm glad it worked out for you (and him). That's why I always tell my boy to be careful in and around the truck, cuz someday it'll be his. Welcome.
