i am a freshman diesel driver. stock everything. i am planning to purchase a smarty jr. i was wondering what break mods anybody is doing? i feel if i can go faster i should stop faster as well. any recs?

transmission? truck year?
never hurts to have gauges although they say you dont need them with the smarty jr. can't hurt to know what kind've parameters you're running

Definitely get gauges. Amsoil filter, "home depot airbox mod", intake horn and cool hose are pretty easy bolt ons too. These trucks have good brakes in my opinion but check out egr brakes. They advertise in the tdr magazine.

Gauges to go with ANY fuelling upgrade, preferably before the Smarty IMO.

I really dont see any need for better brakes. I live in the mountains and have never lacked for braking power even with increased hp. You could go with different pads but pads are always a compromise. To gain braking force, you often loose cold weather performance and often add some brake squeal. Considering winter is seriously cold where you live, and there aren't any mountians to worry about, I would leave the brakes stock.

I too am really happy with the stock pad feel. Although I can fade them out with about 3 miles of spiritted driving, they dont preform too badly cold, and hold up to the heat pretty well.
