New member here, long time lurker. Im getting REAL close to ordering a new 2500. My choice thus far is the 2500 lwb,4x4,qc,4x4,H. O. 6 speed. Is the a/t available in this package?,ive gotten conflicting info on this. Being a California resident i understand the H. O. is somewhat "detuned"? Can anyone elaborate on this?Does D. C. offer a dual shock option? Gear ratio has got me wondering too, most of my time is spent with an unloaded truck, but i pull my bobcat from time to time, and an overhead camper for out of state trips is a possibility. Sold my powerstroke a while back, due to front end sag, transmission problems and squeaks and pops in suspension,im currently driving a chevy 2001 H. D. crew cab 4x4 with the 6. 0 not real happy with the motor,(i wasnt expecting it to be a true puller)but the ride of the i. f. s is hard to beat, but legroom is nonexistent if your over 6'tall. Anyways, hello to everybody here and i look forward to your responses. Thanks in advance!

Shep, the HO is not available with the auto trans. There is no dual shock option. It is my understanding that the california engines have an EGR, but I am not sure. If I were to get the HO/6 speed and I did not intend on putting bigger than 33" tires on I would get the 3. 5 gears. If you are going bigger than 33's get the 4. 10 gears. Your new Dodge won't ride or drive like the chevy, but you will have the best engine in the business. That said, the new Dodges do ride and drive very good, just not quite as good as the IFS trucks. Hope this helped.

I have the same Rig and there is no EGR. I doubt if it is Detuned either as mine flies even without the EZ.

Got the ETH with 3. 54 gears in a LWB 4x4 quad. Real happy with the whole setup. Only downside is a sore left knee if I hit alot of stop and go traffic. But my personal preference wouldn't allow the auto as an option.

Think LSMITH's advice on gears is good. If you aren't doing real HD hauling, then go with the tire size. Believe any more than 33" tires will require some lift (beyond a leveling kit).

Hey Shep, welcome to the TDR. There are a lot of us in and around the Sacto area, I live up in Placerville. We just had a great Dyno day in Sac last Saturday, lots of fun.

Anyway, you can see what I have in my sig. I don't tow or haul much, the truck is primarily a giant race car :D or at least that's how I like to drive it. I have the stock tires and might someday go a little taller, but not much.

We have a lot of TDR events in northen Cal, a *HUGE* event coming in a couple weeks is the Tulare DEPO event. Check the Local/Regional Events Forum for details. On November 17th is a tentative BOMB session down in Modesto. Even if you don't have your truck by then, it is a fasntastic way to meet lots of us, check out our trucks, ask lots of questions, and even catch that most contagious of diseases, BOMBitis!!

Feel free to email me with any questions. I am not the most knowledgable, but I have learned a lot myself over the last 14 months.

As someone else already said, there is NO EGR on the California trucks. Oh, and don't let any of the auto transmission handicapped bunch talk you out of that 6 speed :D expecially for towing anything or hauling heavy loads, nothing beats more gears!!!

Welcome! TDR has a great bunch of people who know the Dodge/Cummins inside out.

The Dodge will ride rougher than your Chevy, but with a solid axle there is less parts moving and wearing out.

As for legroom, I'm 6' 4" and in the quad cab there is plenty of room up front, in the back its better for short people unless people in front slide their seats forward. All The Best!

3.54 vs 4.10

I traded a 2001. 5 5 speed 3. 54 for a 2001. 9 (both 2500's) HO 6 speed 4. 10 to pull my 5er. I really like the 4. 10's on the new truck. Most of my driving is my daily commute (about 20 miles one way) on local highways at 65 MPH, and the RPM's are at about 2100 - 2200. Not bad at all. When I'm towing (usually in the Colorado Mtns), the 4. 10's are great. I rarely drive on the highways empty out of town where the speed limits are above 65, so the 4. 10's work well for me. If you drive alot of higher speed highways empty, then the 3. 54 is probably better.
