Maybe I've missed something, but are there any changes in the newer automatics? Since Dodge has upped the HP in their use, I was just wondering if anything's been done to beef them up from the factory. I realize that the older ones are capable of mild upgrades in HP without changes to the transmission, but if something's been said about this subject, I just plain missed it.

MikeJ, these are just the way manufactures play games moving things around to produce (NEW) products. Before the HO 6spd only the 5 spd could handle the 235/460 motor. But now that the 245/505 is out its just for the 6 spd and all of a sudden the auto can handle the 235/460 where last week it couldn't. Nothing has really changed in the auto its just more sales ploys in action.
The auto can probably handle the 245/505 just fine but then where would the importance of the new 6 spd be.
Just another opinion from out here in the swamps of North Carolina!! Reagrds Pete

I believe the computer retards the timing at shift points, that reduces the torque load transmitted to the trans at critical times.
one of the good points of electronics.

Sounds like a great idea. I've been doing that with my right foot for sometime, and so far have 98,000 miles with no problem #ad

There is an increase in line pressure on the newer autos. I understood this was for 2000 and 2001 model years (maybe it was just the '01's).

ronsram1999, I believe you are correct however, it would seem to me this would only apply when the TCC is going into lockup.
