Anyone heard of a 99+ Chevy/6bt being done yet?

The ISBe/Allison combo is going to be installed into a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (4x4). I bought the vehicle very cheap and am not afraid to take a torch and a sledge to it to make things fit.

I'm not the first to do this - check out this link. I've emailed the guy that did it and he absolutely loves the end results...

Cheers,

Matt

Have you ever measured the Isuzu engine compared to a 4bt? There is a huge difference in them, weight wise too if I remember right. I could see the Isuzu engine fitting with some determination, but a 4bt? WOW!!!

No - I measured the OEM engine and compared it to measurements taken from a 4BT. Keep in mind that the Jeep has a 4. 0L I6 in it - they're pretty long. A 4BT is shorter than the OEM 4. 0L I6... but a bit taller.

That Isuzu 4JB1-TC has a TON of room in there because it is a tiny engine. You can see that they moved the radiator BACK towards the firewall so that the engine driven fan is closer to the radiator.

Here's some specs on that engine:

Model ISUZU 4JB1-T

Type Turbocharged

No. of cylinders 4 in-line

Bore x stroke (mm) 93 x 103

Displacement (cm3) 2771

Weight (kg) 218 (480 pounds) OEM Jeep 4. 0L I6 = ~430 pounds

Compression ratio 18. 2:1

*Output (kW @ r/min) 67 @ 3 600 (90hp)

*Torque (N. m @ r/min) 206 @ 2 000 (151ft-lbs)

I'm definitely not knocking what the guy did, I'm just stating facts.

BTT, intriguing thread. I am now trying to dig up an ISB 3. 9 myself. To do into another swap.

But I want to run it with a manual trans. It never occurred to me that the rear fuel pump etc might interfere with swapping tailhhousings. Bummer because I scored a complete NV5600 wiht bellhousing, mounting plate, flywheel even the clutch slave from a wreck for a killer deal. I guess these will not be compatible??

Also any other leads or lists of vehicles or model number that I can look for a wrecked model for? I found a brand new one for $4500 but that is still a lot of money. Also it is semi-stripped... :( Andre

My 3. 9L/HPCR ISB 170 has an SAE bellhousing and rear mounted geartrain - this will not bolt up to an NV-4500 or NV-5600 without some kind of custom adapter.

I bought mine as a package deal (with all the wiring, etc. ) with an Allison LCT-1000 out of a Workhorse brand chassis (mostly GM parts) Frito-Lay or FedEx truck (I'm not completely sure).
