Cummins, Chrysler, and Ram Trucks, respectively, have been in the news this July for a variety of reasons. There has been good news, bad news, and even some plain old entertainment. In case you missed any of this along the way, the following is a recap of some of this month’s highlights.
RUMOR HAS IT THAT THIS IS NO LONGER A RUMOR:
THE 2025 RAM/CUMMINS WILL HAVE AN ALL- NEW ENGINE AND AN ALL-NEW TRANSMISSION
We have to lead off with what may prove to be the biggest news for Ram/Cummins in 2024: The word on the street from MoparInsiders.com, is that the 2025 Ram Cummins 2500/3500 trucks will have one single heavy-duty diesel powertrain offering, which, “will be made possible by the upcoming ZF Powerline 8-speed automatic transmission” (Powerline 8AT). The article continues that ”expectations are high that the new engine will surpass the performance metrics of the current H/O variant, promising more power and torque.” (Note, they do specify if cab and chassis models will still be offered with two different power rating options). The current 68RFE and the Aisin 6-speed automatics will be replaced with the Powerline 8AT, which was originally designed for heavy-duty, commercial applications. In addition to these major changes to the engine and transmission, the latest spy images of the 2025 trucks indicate they will likely have new headlamps, taillights, front bumper, and possibly, new wheel designs. Time will tell, and we’re excited to see how this all plays out with the 2025 trucks. Source: moparinsiders.com 6/30/24
When and if this proves to be true, then you can be certain we’ll be covering this news in great detail - and just as soon as the details emerge. Stay Tuned.
RAM AND CHRYSLER TO SETTLE 2017 DIESEL CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR $6 MILLION
For 2013-2015 Ram/Cummins owners (2500 and 3500) are parties to a class action lawsuit agreement. The plaintiffs that were suing Ram and Chrysler claim that the trucks were equipped with illegal emissions systems, which cost the owners expensive repairs, and that the manufacturer’s promised fuel-economy was not as advertised. The model years in the suit are limited to the three-year span of 2013-2015 and the settlement only covers owners in the following sixteen states: Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Caroline, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, Viginia, and Washington. There are seventeen original plaintiffs, who will each receive $5,000. All other eligible Ram owners will end up receiving approximately $100.40. Source: www.carscoops.com – 7/18/24
HANG ON TIGHT: TWISTER AND NOW, TWISTERS!
This past Friday, the movie “Twisters” opened in theaters across the US. The movie is the sequel to the original “Twister”, which came out in 1996. The original movie featured a red 1995 Dodge 2500 and that truck became an instant icon. Indeed, the website Jalopnik.com says that “1996’s ‘Twister’ is the greatest car commercial of all time, and the new movie looks like it’ll carry on that legacy.” Reason being, the new movie features the late-model Ram 3500 DRW shown above. No, it does not appear that either truck is a Cummins, however, they are 8-lug Ram trucks so, we agreed that they can be on this list.
GOOD NEWS FOR CUMMINS’ SHAREHOLDERS
Two weeks ago, the Board of Directors at Cummins approved an 8.3% increase in the quarterly stock dividend; from $1.68 per share to $1.82 per share. This is the 15th year in a row they have increased the quarterly common stock cash dividend. If you’re a shareholder, the next dividend is payable on September 5th.
