Back in October, TDR Writer Greg Whale and I attended a press gathering in Columbus, Indiana to announce the availability of Cummins new 5.0-liter diesel. Whale’s report about the engine is found in Turbo Diesel Register Issue 83 (February/March/April – 2014), pages 58 – 60.

As part of that event, we had the opportunity to tour the plant that will make the 5.0 engine for the known customer, Nissan. And, while there are plans for several commercial versions of the 5.0, it was hard to imagine why such a large amount of manufacturing space was being developed for what seemed to be such a limited opportunity.

As we have pointed out, Nissan sold only about 20,000 of the Titan pickups last year.

Limited opportunity? Maybe yes. Maybe no. Here is a link to, as Paul Harvey would have said, “The Rest of the Story.” The link takes you to an article by Phillip Thomas published on The Truth About Cars website. Click here to read the full article.

Enjoy, and let further speculation begin.
