I feel that current recall on fraying throttle cables was largely due to complaints from people on this board to the NHTSA. GOOD JOB!!! Now it's time to get the fifth gear nut under recall. Click here to file a complaint You will need to have your VIN handy. The more you can say that makes the nut failure sound safety related the better, like having it fail while passing or in an intersection. Be creative, keep it short though. It seems that we have to have government intervention, DC will not take care of their problems on it's own.

I believe NHTSA is only concerned with issues directly related to safety. So if you're going to make a 5th gear or steering wander complaint make sure there's a safety aspect to it. Something like: I was in heavy traffic going up a steep grade in the middle of 4 lanes, lost 5th gear and didn't know what was going on, ended up disabled in the middle lane; or steering pull - got on the brakes hard and the truck moved over 1/2 of a lane. I'm not advocating lying here at all - but if you have a safety issue make sure you spell it out otherwise I don't think anything will happen.

I did write the NHTSA about the steering issue. I beleave it to be a hazard. If you can't control where you go its dangerous! I'm sure with enough visits to the dealer i'll get it resolved. But these trucks should not leave the factory and with any safety defects and we should not have to hound the dealer to fix those items in question. I wrote the NHTSA and DC not just because of my problem but also to get those items address hopefully before someone else has the same problem happen to them.

Bottum line: Keep our roads safe. I know my truck wandering has to affect not just me but also the drivers around me.
