So I ran my EZ on level 4 with about 7klbs in tow from Phx to Flagstaff - (always ran on level 2). I have tons of power (" I go as fast as the guy towing in front of me") but coming back I had to limit my speed up the big hill due to EGT's. I held at 1150-1200 but need to get another 5-10mph out of her to keep up with left-lane traffic -I'm running a drop in AFE. Should I go after intake or muffler to drop temps down? Need another 50 degrees or so less at 3k to be comfortable. I don't want it louder, just cooler (and not spend a lot of $)
 
how much are the cold air intakes helping to drop temps?it was not recommended to buy. I was told they do not help as much as they cost. any truths in this,from guys who have them please?
 
My temps went down about 200 from the intake and the exhaust. Before they would get to 1350 fast on higher levels on the edge box and now it takes a lot longer to get that hot. I would buy them again.

You just pulled the cat and muffler and got that kind of decrease? What did you put as a replacement or did you just straight pipe it?

Run the boost elbow? It does help!!! Before I put it on i could not run from 0 to 70 withouit hitting about 1400. Now when I hit 80 she starts to cool off and have not been above 1250 since.
 
Yes I run the elbow (it did help) - I would just be happier running below 1200 under "normal" towing conditions. I have no problem running higher for short bursts but don't want to run up there for more than a minute or two. I guess I'll have to try intake or quiet muffler and see what happens
 
clayton,is the decrease from both at the same time? I am looking for info on the drop by just the intake. what I am told is that the egt will drop that much with exhaust only. which makes me think the intake did not help much. ???
 
I have a AFEcold air system , Banks Turbo back with a airoturbine in the system VA presure box. and I run around 600-900egt normal ( this is relatively flat and

not to windy) at 65 mpr. pulling a 27 ' airstrem ... I did that hill swivel talked about 1/2 way fron Flag to Phonix last sat. And hit1400 at the top . . I was dooing over 70. I didnt want to get stuck behind some truck dooing 45
 
Did he say he was at 3000 RPM or was the 3K referring to something else. If he is at 3000 RPM I;d say that's the problem right there.
 
You can run 1300 all day long just cool her down before you shut down. If you are driving at night this hot you can see the castings glowing red. :)
