cp-3 question

Hey fellas, like the title says, i need to lower my EGT's. I already have the usual stuff like intake elbow, cold air intake, exhaust, and ATS 3K. Im running the quadzilla adrenaline programmer and cant pass level 5 without it de-fueling due to high EGT's. My question is, should i upgrade the intercooler, or just take the plunge to compounds? What im after is around 550-600rwhp that i can tow with and use as a daily driver. :D Thanks in advance for all the help guys! TDR is the only way to go!

I cant get over 1100 with my set up empty. I can also keep it under 1350 loaded with 14k on the gooseneck in the east coast mountains if I keep it in the right gear. My big injectors hurt the egt's for me. My next step is going to be a cam and water meth injection set up if I find I need to lower the egts further. BTW, I am almost 650 hp and 1300tq as a daily driver, I am limited by my cp-3.

I see you have compounds, I had a feeling that was going to be my only option. I just installed the ATS 3K within the last month but it wasnt quite the increase i was expecting. i thought about the 4K but ATS doesnt reccomend it for towing. A quick intercooler swap sure would have been much easier on the wallet. LOL

I dont know about the intercooler. They are a lot of money too. I run the stock one, mine has metal sides and thought about switching it out, but I think I would rather put a water/meth system in for the money. You may be able to build a twin set up with your turbo too. Mine are the towing twins so they are not the fastest, speed wise, and there still is some lag, but they do keep the temps down. One thing with the II twins though is they barely fit and they don't give you any directions so the install is a pita. I like the parts but for the money you would expect a little more. I think what you are going to find out is that you need to increase the injectors to get the hp you want, but thats going to increase the egts too. You have to try and match everything up. Right now I am fuel heavy and smoke like a freight train. Untill I re-cam it i can't get any more air into the system.

Thanks for the help friend. I was hoping to keep the cost down by going with an intercooler rather than upgrading to compounds and having to buy the ats 5m. Of course if I did I'd also have to stud the head, add snother CP( and so on. Ats says on their website the 4l is not good for towing but does anyone know how true that is? Would it be possible to go that route and still be able to tow 10_12m?

I would try and borrow a smarty to see if that helps. The ATS 3000 doesn't seem like the right fit for your goals either.

If you want to tow at 550 rwhp then you need twins, end of story. If you want to back off to about 400-425 to tow then you can probably get away with a 62/68/14.

Either way a Smarty will help EGT's.

I will eventually step up to twins but would like to lower my egt's for now. I can only get away with the quad set on level 5 right now under full throttle. Are intercoolers really not effective? Btw I'm not a fan of the smarty but thanks again for all the advice.

Intercoolers are only effective at sustained high boost levels. On my setup if an intercooler were to drop my intake air temp to ambient air temp I would barley see a 758 EGT drop, not worth the cost as the air will still be above ambient.

If you want to know how much the intercooler will help EGT's then run a OBDII monitor and see what your higest IAT's are under full load. If they are within about 30-40* of ambient you won't get any change, but if they are alot above than then you can get 1. 5* of EGT reduction for every * drop in IAT.

Also have you considered a bigger single turbo? The A3K is a smaller comp wheel than stock and barely a larger turbine wheel as is only rated for 35ish hp over stock, or about 300-325 rwhp so its not surprising you run out of EGT's on upper levels.

What are the specs on the ats 4k? I can't seem to find them. If I can stilll tow with that one then ill go that route. I went with the 3k with plans of upgrading but I think the wife's want for a camper has me beat.

Thanks for the link AH64ID, had i seen that i would have gone with the 4K from the start! Ill definately be upgrading to the 4k. Also thanks for the info on intercoolers. I thought they were just about mandatory when making upgrades but the IAT check definately makes alot of sense. If any of you gentlemen are ever down in La look me up. I believe i owe you guys a drink for all your help!
