Does anyone out here have a current NHRA rule book? Mine is from 2008. I need information for a full body car running in the 10 second ET range; specifically what the Helmet and fire jacket/suit requirements are. Thank you in advance.

Dave

So is mine! The reason? It's online now and I think you need membership.
I think if you're below 9.99/125 I think you can have a SFI jacket and pants. There is a new spec for helmets though. You still may be able to wear open face.

Hi Wayne! Yes, you have to be a member to access the rulebook on-line. My jacket and pants are SFI but I read somewhere that there is now a time limit like on our seatbelts. I do want to move to an open faced helmet. I wear one of those neck donuts too. Speaking of the seatbelts... That is one of those safety items that has never made sense to me. Why we have to change or recert our seatbelts every two years? I have heard the story of the sun deteriorating the stitching on our belts but what about our daily drivers? My Scamp only sees daylight at the track. Well, anyway..... Hey here's another thing. I name my race cars. The Scamp has carried the name "High Anxiety" on the doors since 1995. That name came from the ex-spousal unit and the current spousal unit would like it renamed. She likes "Un-Hinged" or "Off The Leash". Throw some names out there will you...?

Can't have "Shrimp Scampy" - that's taken by a long time bracketeer in penna :-laf
I hear ya on the recert, I think it's to guarantee business. I think clothing has to be recert too.

Sorry Killer! That'll never fly in our house..... And I think you're right about the clothing recert. That's actually what got all this started. I have a competition license and it needs renewed. If I do my NHRA membership now, my license will expire before the end of the 2018 season. I was planning to renew in January so it'll be good throughout the 2018 season. But I also need to update my safety equipment....... My bride is a planner so she is all over managing the "business" side of my racing to include safety stuff. Thus my original post. She went all out and developed a budget for 2018 already. May sound a bit anal but I never have to worry about using grocery money for racing like I did back in the 80's and 90's.

Dave, recert is a function of liability. Unfortunately today's climate of reduced personal responsibility requires a cya mentality from any event organizer. Belt and cage inspection and recertification, from what I've been told( my buddy ran a 9.90 car at N.E Dragway) is more to check for maintenance induced damage than deterioration. These cars get torn apart and modified on a regular basis. A slip with a grinder or welding spatter can easily degrade the safety margins.

So, I never did find out what the NHRA Rulebook says are the latest Standards for a helmet and fire jacket.....? Anybody?
